On October 16, Sumgait State University (SSU) and Sumgait City History Museum held an event dedicated to the 4th anniversary of the liberation of Fuzuli region from Armenian occupation. The event took place in the Sumgait City History Museum and this significant day was remembered once again. The event was attended by professor Shirkhan Salimov, head of the department of History of Azerbaijan and Eastern European peoples of the faculty of History and geography of SSU, Namig Aliyev, deputy director of the Sumgait City History Museum, employees of the museum and a group of students of the faculty of SSU. During the event, the speakers emphasized the historical importance of the liberation of the Fuzuli region, which was under Armenian occupation for years, thanks to the bravery,heroic Azerbaijani army. It was also noted that this victory achieved as a result of the successful foreign and domestic policy of the Supreme Commander of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev was a great turning point in ensuring the territorial integrity of the country. In his speech, professor Shirkhan Salimov emphasized the strategic and historical role of liberating Fuzuli region from occupation during the Karabakh war and once again praised the bravery of the Azerbaijani army. Namig Aliyev, together with the employees of the museum, spoke with the event participants about the facts of the destruction of the cultural and historical heritage of the region during the Armenian occupation, as well as the work done in the direction of restoration and reconstruction of that heritage.
Students also made a speech at the event and noted that the struggle for territorial integrity of Azerbaijan will always live in their memory and the importance of transferring this victory to future generations. In the end, photo and video materials reflecting the liberation of Fuzuli region from occupation were shown, the participants of the event were closely acquainted with the historical documents and exhibits included in the museum"s collection.
