On October 25, Sumgayi State University (SSU) held a forum on "COP29 and the role of youth in economic, political and environmental development" under the joint organization of the SSU Student Union Committee and the Absheron-Khizi Regional Representative Office of the Youth Development and Career Center. The event began with the playing of the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Later, rector of SSU, associate professor Rufat Azizov greeted the guests and participants and talked about the importance of the forum. He touched on the projects implemented in SSU related to sustainable development and the university"s climate change policy. He also informed about the "Climate Management School" project, which will be organized on the eve of COP29 in cooperation with Oxford Saïd Business School. Farman Kazimov, deputy director of the social-political and humanitarian affairs department of Sumgait City Executive Authority and organizer of work with religious organizations, also spoke the importance of the forum. He spoke about the work done in the city of Sumgait to combat climate change, establish green belts and improve the ecological environment. Sevinj Gasimova, coordinator of the Absheron-Khizi Regional Representative Office of the Youth Development and Career Center, moderated the forum"s "Youth Development" panel. The following participants made a speech as a speaker: Ramiz Huseynov, a member of the Board of the New Azerbaijan Party and chairman of the NAP Sumgait city organization, Amin Mammadov, chairman of the Public Union "Experts in the field of water use" and chairman of the Public Council under the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, deputy dean of the faculty of Economics and management of SSU, associate professor Logman Abdullayev, as well as Rovshan Najafguliyev, chief advisor of Regional Ecology and Natural Resources Department No. 4 of ETSN. Current issues related to economic, political and environmental issues were discussed in the speeches and the potential of young people in these areas was emphasized. At the end of the event, ‘Thank you letters’ were presented to the active students.
