On November 4, the event “COP29 Let’s Promote Sustainability, Stand Together for a Green World” was organized by the faculty of Natural Sciences at Sumgayit State University.First, the participants got acquainted with the exhibition of handicrafts made from waste reflecting environmental awareness in the lobby of the university. At the event, the dean of the faculty, associate professor Rashad Salimov, spoke on the topic of “Climate Change” and provided information about Goal 13 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) (Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts). He spoke about the impact of climate change on the environment, the damage it causes to humanity, the preventive measures applied in this area, and noted that the implementation of environmental awareness measures for the sake of environmental protection is one of the important issues. The dean brought to our attention that in our country, in accordance with the COP29 action plan, forums, exhibitions, and various events are organized in this direction at Sumgayit State University. He noted that this also contributes to the formation of an ecological worldview in the upbringing of the younger generation, increasing environmental knowledge, and the joint activities of our country regarding global climate policy. All this is of particular importance in the development of the green energy sector, which is one of the effective tools for preventing global climate change. Then, a video clip called “Nature” was shown. Roya Alizadeh, a first-year student of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, “About COP29” made a presentation and clarified the questions of what is COP and what will hosting COP29 give to our country? Then, the students reminded us again with a scene they prepared with the song ‘Earth Song’ by world-famous pop star Michael Jackson, how deep a place nature holds in everyone’s heart. The students also demonstrated another scene they prepared, Simulation- the impact of wars on ecology. This was followed by a pantomime performance of “The Lungs of the World”. At the end of the event, the message “Earth where in it together” was given.
