Great Novruz holiday was held in Sumgayit State University. The rector of University professor Elkhan Huseynov congratulated all participants on occasion of holiday in opening ceremony.  Noruz is one of the oldest national holiday of Azerbaijan Republic. This holiday differs from others with its beauties. Novruz is an official holiday of our nation.  Besides this Novruz is also family holiday. In the evening before the holiday the whole family gathers around the holiday table laid with various dishes to make the New Year rich. The holiday goes on for several days and ends with festive public dancing and other entrainment of folk bands, contests of national sports.  The decoration of the festive table is khoncha, a big silver or copper tray with Samani, green shoots wheat seeds placed in the centre and candles and dyed eggs by the number of family members around it. The table should be set, at least with seven dishes. The main symbols of this national holiday are Dada-Gorgud, Kosa, Kechel and Spring girl. Novruz is a new day and a new life noted the rector. National holiday status was given to Novruz by the decree of national leader Haydar Aliyev after Inderpendence of Azerbaycan Republic. Novruz was written in the list of national-cultural heritage by the goodwill ambassador of UNESCO and ISESCO Mehriban hanim Aliyeva metioned the rector.
Then the popular singers of our Republic Babek Niftaliyev, Fadaya Lachin and self-action collectives of SSU add special colors to holiday event.
