The next meeting of the Academic Council held at Sumgayit State University
The next meeting of the Academic Council was held at Sumgayit State University (SSU). The meeting was chaired by the Acting Rector of the university, corresponding member of ANAS, Professor Aminaga Sadigov. Professor Aminaga Sadigov opened the meeting, greeted the council members and spoke about the historic speech delivered by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York. He noted that the President's speech is of great importance in strengthening our country's international position, supporting peace and cooperation initiatives in the region, as well as further increasing Azerbaijan's international prestige. Then, on October 3, at the award ceremony for Azerbaijani universities included in the "QS 2026" global ranking, Professor Aminaga Sadigov presented the certificate presented to Sumgayit State University by the "QS" organization to the members of the Academic Council. He described this achievement as a significant event for the university staff and congratulated all employees on their success. Then, the discussion of the issues on the agenda began. Vice-Rector for Science and Innovations, Associate Professor Elshad Abdullayev provided information on the regulation of the teaching process for students involved in the "Code Academy" project. As a result of the discussions, it was agreed to replace some subjects in the Computer Engineering major of the Faculty of Engineering, Chemistry major of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, and Mathematics Teaching major of the Faculty of Mathematics with subjects taught at the “Code Academy”.
Head of the Department of International Cooperation and Strategic Projects, Aysel Eminova spoke about representation of SSU in international rankings (QS) and the tasks ahead. She emphasized that the achievements of the university in recent years stem from the quality of academic activity and the effective development of international relations. It was noted that the expansion of scientific research in terms of quality and scale, as well as increasing the number of articles in journals included in international databases such as Web of Science and SCOPUS, are among the main goals facing the university. In this regard, relevant instructions have been given to faculty deans, department heads, and teaching staff.
Then, the scientific secretary, Professor Mukhtar Samedov presented information on the granting of scientific names. The issue of submitting a petition to the Higher Attestation Commission under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan to award the academic title of associate professor to Gulbas Rustamova, associate professor of the Department of Business Management, and Nabat Suleymanova, associate professor of the Department of Automation and Mechanics, for their scientific and pedagogical activities was considered, and a decision was made based on the results of a secret ballot. The Academic Secretary also provided information about the scientific and educational materials submitted to the Academic Council. It was noted that 9 materials were submitted to the Council - 1 monograph, 3 textbooks and 5 subject programs. After discussions, permission was granted to publish the submitted materials.
Current issues were also discussed at the meeting and relevant decisions were made.
