SSU has celebrated the World Civil Defense Day in cooperation with Sumgait Regional Center of Ministry of Emergency Situations on March 1, 2017.  The vise-rector on Humanitarian Issues, an assoc. professor  Mr. Ramiz Huseynov made an opening speech and noted that taking into account the role of this field in the happenings of last period worldwide, it is necessary to conduct such kind of the activities in order to enlighten the people. 
The head of the Training and Operational Planning Office of Sumgait Regional Center, Major Mr. Rafig Hasanov made a speech as well and widely spoke about the “establishment of the Civil Defense”. He notified that this day was declared by the resolution of the International Civil Defense Organization and is celebrated in all continents like a massive humanitarian event. Azerbaijan became a member to this reputable organization in 1993. Each year the day is dedicated to the different problems. The main responsibility of the civil defense body is to provide civil defense of the population and to train the people in order to avoid emergency situations. Conduction of such kind of activities is a great of importance in terms of enlightenment. In recent times, this field attracted a special attention. 
Besides, Head of RCS Sumgait Branch Mrs. Matanat Maharramova made a speech and widely shared about the “Role of Mobile groups” in civil defense. She namely reported about their activity, principles and the equipment that they have in case of emergency situations. 
Meanwhile, the following people had a chance to make a speech accordingly:
The lecturer of the Department on Medical Training and Civil Defense Mr. Sabir Alekperov spoke about the subject dedicated to the “Study of International experiences in order to train the people for protection” and student of 2nd course of department on Phylology Mrs. Nigar Mammadova spoke about the “Readiness of the youth in emergency situations, elimination of those situations and the role of youth in order to remove emergency situations”. They notified that the key target is to achieve conducting of the prophylactic activities in order to avoid explosions and fire accidents, to improve the knowledge in the field of civil defense and to get known of rules of conduct in case of the emergency situations. 
During an interesting event, the participants had a chance to watch the video clip reflecting the activity of Ministry of Emergency Situations, working process of all branches attached to the Ministry and their training processes. 
Afterwards, as the practical part of the event, an earthquake warning alarm has been alerted in the university. During this activity the students demonstrated the rules of evacuation and basic provisions of the first medical aid.
