On April 23, at Sumgait State University, Subject Olympiad in mathematics devoted to Heydar Aliyev’s 94th anniversary was held under the slogan “Today’s pupil is tomorrow’s scholar”. In the order (dated January 26, 2015) of the President of Azerbaijan Republic Mr. Ilham Aliyev according to “the strategy of Azerbaijani youth’s development in 2015-2025” realizing various events in order to create teenagers’ interest in science is planned. One of these events is organization of subject Olympiads. The main goal in holding subject Olympiads is to strengthen qualitative education, increase teenagers’ interest in knowledge and their self-confidence, to reveal talented and creative students in different fields and open opportunities due to their talents and help students to choose appropriate profession. Holding subject Olympiad has already become a tradition in our university. Highly organized Olympiads in Sumgait State University caused the growth of interest in it and made a name as a reliable knowledge competition.
It should be noted that it is already the second Olympiad in mathematics. This one was more unlike than the previous. The number of participants was different. The previous Olympiad was held only for the 4th-8th classes, but in this one pupils of the 9th-10th classes tested their knowledge, too. 542 pupils from 46 secondary schools attended this Olympiad which was held with the support of Sumgait Education Department. Soon test-papers will be checked and estimated by the organizing committee. Winners will be rewarded with diplomas and valuable presents.
