Complex development of the country’s economy stimulates the improvement of social welfare of people and it influences strengthening of the international reputation. According to President Ilham Aliyev’s order signed in 2010 “On improvement of management mechanisms in petrochemical industry”, nowadays, Sumgayit is becoming a big industrial center; new enterprises, strong industrial potential are established and new workplaces are opened. Establishment of such enterprises makes Azerbaijan’s economy stronger, the ability of export grows and it stimulates the development of non-oil sector.
On May 30, rector Professor Elkhan Huseynov and a teaching staff visited Sumgayit chemical industrial enterprises. The collective was acquainted with work mechanism of enterprises which are going to be ready and exchanged ideas about cadre potential of the city. 
First, the guests visited Ethylene-Polyethylene plant of “Azerikimya” Production Unit. The director of the plant Oktay Niftaliyev welcomed the guests and thanked to SSU administration for coming. He acquainted the delegation with the plant and noted that reconstruction in Ethylene-Polyethylene plant which is the main production field of “Azerikimya” PU is to be completed. Great leader Heydar Aliyev had historical services in establishment of the plant. Ethylene-Polyethylene plant was set up on the basis of “EP-300” and “Polymer-120” appliances. In his 1998 visit to Japan, Heydar Aliyev achieved to buy steam generator set for the first time in the history of Azerbaijan and it was a great contribution to development of petrochemical industry of the country. Great leader participated in the ground breaking ceremony of the complex in 1999 and in opening ceremony in 2001. This complex not only rescued the chemical industry, but also was a significant means in providing reliable energy supply for the future of “Azerikimya”. According to the order of President Ilham Aliyev, “On improvement of management mechanisms in petrochemical industry” (2010) “Azerikimya” State Company became subject to SOCAR. After the establishment of “Azerikimya” PU, intensifying the work, oil and gas processing, heightening the productivity of petrochemical industry and increasing competitiveness of productions were main targets. During this period with the support of SOCAR nitrogen-oxygen and water-cooling complexes, absolute isopropyl unit, laboratory involving industrial and sanitary areas, cleaning sulfur compounds from propane-propylene fraction and butane-butylene fraction hydrogenation facilities, as well as new administrative and domestic buildings were built and launched. Also, other fields were overhauled. Nevertheless, as far as the issue of providing the Polypropylene and high density polyethylene plants with high quality raw material of needed quantity (built in Sumgayit chemical industrial park within the framework of SOCAR-Polymer project) is concerned, necessity of increasing the efficiency of production of “EP-300” appeared, because these units must be provided with 150-180 thousand tons of propylene product, 100 thousand tons of ethylene product, as well as hydrogen and steam per year by “Azerikimya” PU’s Ethylene-polyethylene plant. The director also noted that the demand for products of the plant grew in the world market.
Then, director Oktay Niftaliyev acquainted the university staff with new laboratories which involves production and quality control and industrial-sanitary areas. He noted that 6 students out of 31 who participated in competition of Internal Scholarship Program of SOCAR are students of SSU. At the end of the meeting, rector Elkhan Huseynov thanked to the director and collective of the plant. He said that our meeting will stimulate our cooperation and internship of master and PhD students.
During the visit the guests got acquainted with works done at “SOCAR Polymer” plant. It was informed that, in the last 40 years it was the first petrochemical project for type and scale. Construction work of the project was completed for 2016 according to plan and it will improve the export potential of petrochemical industry of Azerbaijan. It is planned that the plant will fully operate in 2018. It is intended to produce 120 thousand tons of high-density polyethylene and 180 thousand tons of polypropylene production in “SOCAR Polymer” plant. Additionally, it was emphasized that SOCAR is conducting giant and perspective projects in Sumgayit in order to raise production and export potential in the field of processing industry, as well as to set up new workplaces in Azerbaijan: along with mega-projects such as “Shahdeniz-2” realized in production and transport area, “SOCAR Polymer”, “SOCAR Carbamide” etc. also set up new workplaces and bring billions of additional income.
Then, rector Professor Elkhan Huseynov and the staff was acquainted with construction process of carbamide plant in Sumgayit by SOCAR. In the meeting director of Carbamide plant Khayal Jafarov welcomed the guests and talked about the company and work done by “Samsung Engineering”. The plant was founded in December 2011 by the President. Related to the construction of Carbamide plant, open tender was announced in 2011 and according to the results of the tender, “Samsung Engineering Co. Ltd.” company of the Republic of Korea was chosen a contractor on engineering, purchase and construction. Companies from Denmark and the Netherlands take part as license of ammonia and carbamide production, respectively. Moreover, there is a proper agreement with a Finland company which was selected through international open tender in 2015 to manage the project and fulfill independent monitoring service. It was also noted that the construction of the plant is planned to be finished.
At the roundtable Professor Elkhan Huseynov talked about the significance of the meeting and stressed the importance of establishment of relations in terms of cooperation. He expressed his assurance about contribution of the cooperation to the preparation of qualified cadres. Active participation of youth in economic development processes of the country is one of the priorities of President Ilham Aliyev’s socio-economic policy. For this purpose, our university has set up partnership with Sumgayit Technologies Park, enterprises of “Azerikimya” PU. Besides, we have discussed profiles of scientific cooperation within the framework of education-scientific-production with Polymer Materials Institute of ANAS and achieved successful outcomes. Rector emphasized that policy for grant of long-term socio-economic development is also directed to future improvement of labor market. The purpose of the meeting is establishment of initial relations between employers and graduates who are in the early steps of their career. Being acquainted closely with production fields of the plant, the guests met students of our university who are in manufacturing practice and the graduate of Process automation on TEMPUS project of engineering faculty Mardan Guliyev. Afterwards, the guests visited some construction areas and were acquainted closely with works done. At the end of the meeting memorial photo was taken.
