The children form the basis of society’s future development. To defense the children’s rights who need care and compassion, to upbring them as worthy citizens are the main social responsibilities of every country. In this meaning the proposals were accepted to ensure children’s rights at Women’s International Conference organized by UN General Assembly on June 1, 1950. From that date 1 June is celebrated as International Children’s Defense Day in most countries of the world.
On June 1- International Children’s Defense Day teaching and student staff of university visited the children living in Boarding house N 7 for mentally and physically disabled children situated in Saray settlement of Absheron district on the eve of Ramadan holiday.
Noting the importance of this day, the head of Trade Union Committee associate professor Elmar Khalilov notified that, 1 June is celebrated as International Children’s Defense Day in the globe. It is not random, because the solution of children’s problems, preservation of their rights is one of the actual duties of modern life. Covering the children with care, establishing the essential conditions to grow in suitable spiritual and social environment, as well as upbringing them as honorable person and worthy citizen forms main directions of state child policy which was set up by great leader Heydar Aliyev. Significant steps hold in protection of children’s rights by President Mr. Ilham Aliyev, the activity of Heydar Aliyev Foundation guarantee that, these traditions will live for many years and will play an important role in Azerbaijani children’s fate. The declaration of 2009 “Children’s year” with the order of President Ilham Aliyev dated 22 December 2008 should be considered an obvious sample of infinite care for children in Azerbaijan. Within this substantial campaign the measures were implemented consistently and purposefully in the field of children’s rights in our Republic. Elmar Khalilov emphasized that, Heydar Aliyev Foundation works efficiently for realization of many-branched initiatives carried in protection of children’s rights. The role of significant projects fulfilled by the Foundation in the field of intellectual and physical improvement of children is undeniable. First vice-president of Azerbaijan Republic Ms. Mehriban Aliyeva regards the children with special needs and deprived of parental care with concern and attention. By the initiative of  Heydar Aliyev Foundation the children of the refugee and displaced people, as well low-income and poor families are paid special attention. Reintegration of disabled children to society is durable and resistant. As a result of this, charity and humanism based projects and activities are increasing year by year.
Afterwards, the representatives presented holiday gifts to mentally and physically disabled children, congratulated them for holiday and noted that, we consider this kind of visits as our duty. The presents caused children’s delight.
