Well-known scholar, honored scientist, associate member of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, Doctor of technical sciences, Professor Firudin Ibrahim oghlu Mammadov died on June 8, 2017, in his 81. Firudin Mammadov was born in 1936, July 1 in Shahtakhty village of Sharur region in Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. After graduating the secondary school in 1953 he entered the oil-mechanical faculty of Azerbaijan Industrial Institute and in 1958 he finished the specialty of Automation, telemechanics and electric measuring devices and appliances. He began his work career in 1958 at Scientific-Research Institute Petrochemical automatic as a laborator. In 1961-1964 Firudin Mammadov worked as first, second grade technician, senior technician, third grade engineer; in 1964-1968 he worked as first grade engineer, second grade engineer and senior research fellow at Petrochemical automatic. From 1961 to 1964 he continued his education in a graduate course at his workplace and in 1967 he got the degree of candidate of technical sciences. In 1968-1974 Firudin Mammadov worked as senior lecturer, assistant professor and dean; from 1974 till today he worked at the university as assistant professor, professor and head of departments of Industry technical appliances, Power supply and electrical equipment, Electrotechnology and Electromechanics.
Firudin Mammadov got the degree of Doctor of technical sciences in 1993 and was a professor in 1995. He was elected an associated member of ANAS on information science in 2001.
Professor Firudin Mammadov had essential services in the development of information science and energetics in Azerbaijan. The main direction of his scientific-technical activity which covers a long period was the study of information-measuring systems, multidimensional transmitters in technological processes. Significant results of fundamental researches held by the scientist have been highly appreciated by experts.
Firudin Mammadov always coordinated harmoniously his scientific and pedagogical activities and actively participated in preparation of highly qualified cadres in institutions of higher education. He represented Azerbaijani science abroad in the prestigious international scientific symposiums, forums and conferences with his speech and presentations.
Firudin Mammadov is the author of more than 250 scientific works, about 10 textbooks and monographs, more than 30 inventions which are published in and out of the country. He mentored more than 10 doctors of philosophy.
Professor Firudin Mammadov’s scientific activities have been appreciated properly. For services in development of Azerbaijani science he was awarded with various honorary titles and medals, as well as the honorary title of “Honored Scientist” in 2007 given by the President Ilham Aliyev.
