On September 27, the first meeting of Scientific Council was held for 2017-2018 academic year. Rector Professor ElkhanHuseynov opened the meeting, congratulated Council members and all the staff on new education year and wished them success in their scientific-pedagogical activities.
Next, issues on the agenda were discussed. NatigTalibov, docent vice-rector on Teaching and learning technologies informed about the results of student admission in bachelor’s degree for new education year and he noted that student admission has been higher in 2017-2018 academic year. Generally, student admission increased in the last three years. Also, it was noted that abolition of academic debt by the permission of Cabinet of Ministers (14.06.2017, №257) allowed students to participate in the exam of two subjects without listening the lectures again in every semester.
SabirKhalilov, head of doctorate and master section reported that master student admission for 2017/2018 has been high. Student enrollment raised in all majors of master’s degree at Sumgayit State University. Several students came from different universities of the country.
MatanatPirquliyeva, docent, director of Sumgayit State Technical College talked about student admission. It was noted that admission rate was high and it means 96% of plan.
Then, rector Professor ElkhanHuseynov made speech on development perspectives and upcoming tasks of the university. Rector divided development perspectives in two stages: near and far perspectives. First of all, he emphasized that it is important to improve scientist potential in order to substitute the old generation and it is priority for Scientific Council. It was noted that in the last three years several young teachers were given workload, some of them have been employed as full-time teachers and some deliver hour account lesson. This will be carried on as a tradition. He notified that it is important to support perspective young people. Rector also said that 7 persons have been admitted for doctor of sciences program and they have to make reports about the process of preparation of their dissertation works. At the present, PhD program is also being implemented. Generally, after the admission, activities, attestation and dissertation of PhD students have to be monitored seriously. It is intended to establish defense councils for the future.
Furthermore, TurgayHuseynov, head of International cooperation section informed about implementation of international projects and new projects. After that, Professor MukhtarSamadov, scientific secretary talked about publication right, subject programs and syllabus approval. It was noted that educationalresources which were introduced to Scientific Council for approval of publication right have been reviewed by relevant sections of Editorial and publishing council of the university and was recommended to Scientific Council with expert reference.
At the end of the meeting decisions of discussed issues were made by voting.
