Elkhan Huseynov: Azerbaijan is one of the countries with vast experience in organization of competitions of international importance
University authority gives a special attention on the improvement of sports, as well as the health of students. On October 10, Sumgayit State University started Spartakiad on 6 types of sports (mini-football, draughts, volleyball, table tennis, shooting and badminton) dedicated to 55th Anniversary of SSU. 
Ceremony began with sounding Azerbaijan state anthem. Rector of University Professor Elkhan Huseynov commenced the competition and notified that, this project which is realized for healthy lifestyle and improving interest to sports, is not of great importance only for physical health, but also for spiritual nurture of youth and their growth with spirit of patriotism. Sports policy was founded by Great leader Heydar Aliyev and is being successfully continued by President of Azerbaijan Republic Ilham Aliyev.
Achievements gained in the field of sports are significant criteria determining general development level and economic potential of the state. In this regard, dynamic improvement of Azerbaijan is parallel with success achieved in sports. The medals, construction of sports complexes and reinforcement of Azerbaijan’s reputation in international arena as a sports country constitute the bases of achievements in the field of sport. Professor Elkhan Huseynov emphasized that, Azerbaijan is one of the countries with vast experience in organization of competitions of international importance. Europe and world Championships, World cup contests are held at a high level in our capital.
Ministry of Education pays special attention to sport for increasing its publicity among teenagers and youth, for spending their free time meaningful and productive. The Ministry collaborates with several sports related organizations and the works conducted in this field and realized events are quite commendable. After Mikayil Jabbarov’s election as the president of Azerbaijan Federation of Badminton and Fencing, several events were carried out for improvement this type of sports and its publicity.
The big sports hall was repaired; chess board was constructed in the yard of university, tennis and volleyball courts and kiosk for table games were set up at Sumgayit State University for students to spend their free time efficiently. The groups of football, table tennis, badminton, shooting, volleyball, chess, daughter and health have been established in sports club. Recently the groups of bicycle ride, fencing and other types of sports will be set up. “The country with healthy and strong youth is able to everything” – the quote of president should be a slogan of our young generation. 
Rector wished good luck to playing teams at the end of his speech. Spartakiad went on with the “Sama” dance group and students’ amateur program.
Afterwards, team of the faculty of Chemistry and biology met with the team of Sumgayit State Technical College in the first game held on mini-football. The students of college won with a score of 3:1, the team of faculty of Physics and electroenergetics versus faculty of Economy and management – the score was 2:1, team of faculty of History and geography versus faculty of Mathematics – the score was 6:3, team of faculty of Philology versus faculty of Engineering – the score was 4:2.
