Our country has alternative and renewable energy potential because of its favorable geographical conditions. Limitation of fuel and energy resources, complexity of their production, transmission and distribution processes, also gradual increase of organic fuel prices have led to necessity of wide and effective ways of use. Two decrees by Ilham Aliyev, President of Azerbaijan Republic (“State program for use of alternative and renewable energy resources in Azerbaijan” dated October 21, 2004; Order for establishment of State Agency of Azerbaijan Republic Ministry of Industry and Energy for Alternative and Renewable Energy Resources dated July 16, 2009) once again show that these issues are topical.
With the aim of providing power stations working by such energy resources with qualified staff a subject of non-traditional energy production has been included in education plan of major of energetics by Ministry of Education. The subject is also taught in Sumgayit State University.
The students of physics and electroenergetics faculty visited Gobustan wind, solar biogas and hybrid power stations to see the work of the stations, heating technology and electrical installations which are used to get energy from wind electric station. The excursion was organized with participation of Konul Hajiyeva, deputy dean on education of the faculty, Nadir Hajibalayev, head of the electrotechnology and energetics department, Ashura Hashimova and Islam Islamov, associated professors of electromechanics department, Kamala Aghakhanova and Afila Babayeva, PhD candidates of the department.
Students were informed about the station’s activity, equipment of and transmission of generated energy to the network by solar and wind stations. Questions about solar module parameters in the station and delivery of the energy to consumers were illuminated by station workers and assoc.prof. A.R.Hashimova, subject teacher. Then students were acquainted with the equipment for research purposes located in the station’s practice-testing area. Here flat solar collector converts the solar energy into heat; the heat is transmitted to heat carrier where water is circulated; this heat provides the station with hot water and heating system is heated.
Also, the process of acquisition of household gas by using manure was introduced to the students. After cleaning natural gas obtained from device, gas is injected into the reservoir and is used in the station. So, students learned about obtaining energy from biomass energy in the station, monitoring system and its working principle. After the detailed acquaintance with the station, in the conference hall Ramiz Kalbiyev, department manager talked about development perspectives of obtaining energy from alternative and renewable energy resources in 2015-2020 in Azerbaijan Republic.
Then, students visited dispatcher station that manages the operating mode of the equipment in solar station with capacity of 1MW and wind power station with capacity of 2,7 MW. It is pleasing that there were SSU graduates among workers of the station.
Students expressed their gratitude to university administration and faculty dean for the excursion.
