On February 14, opening ceremony of VII Republican contest “Scientists of tomorrow” was held. The contest is run with organization of Ministry of Education, Ministry of Youth and Sport, Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, Heydar Aliyev Centre, Knowledge Foundation under President of Azerbaijan Republic and Free Trade Union Republican Committee of Azerbaijan Education Employees. The purpose of holding the contest is to create circumstances to upper class students for engaging in research, demonstrating their scientific achievements and determining candidates to participate in Intel ISEF-International Science and Engineering Fair which is held every year in USA.
Deputy minister of Education Jeyhun Bayramov greeted the attendees and spoke about significant role of the contest in disclosing skills of creative youth and supporting them for becoming specialists and researchers. Jeyhun Bayramov noted that state policy in the field of education is for training intelligent youth who will serve to the country. There are extensive opportunities for learners to conduct research, to use new information technologies and to learn foreign languages. In this regard increasing potential of youth according to “State Strategy on development of education in Azerbaijan” is one of the strategic targets of education. The contest “Scientists of tomorrow” which is held for the seventh time in our country focuses their attention to problems occurring in our society and to their solution. At the same time, this contest is innovative thought competition and encourages young people to creation of innovative products.
Afterwards the following people made speeches in the ceremony: a vice-president of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences Dilgam Taghiyev; a deputy director of Heydar Aliyev Centre Adil Karimli; a chairwoman of Department of Youth Affairs of Ministry of Youth and Sports Indira Hajiyeva; an executive director of Knowledge Foundation under President of Azerbaijan Republic Oktay Samadov and a deputy chairman of Free Trade Union Republican Committee of Azerbaijan Education Employees Mirza Jafarzade. They emphasized the significance of the contest for raising interest of youth to education and science. Then the guests watched the stands. 
It should be noted that scientific support is provided by Sumgayit State University to secondary schools in Sumgayit. Chosen pupils participated in the contest under the guidance of Javanshir Mammadov, professor of SSU by preparing scientific projects on specialties which were jointly determined by professor-teaching staff of the University.
