A SCIENTIFIC-PRACTICAL CONFERENCE HELD DEDICATED TO 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE GENOCIDE OF AZERBAIJANIS

On March 30, a scientific-practical conference was held in Heydar Aliyev Center in Sumgayit organized by Sumgayit city Executive Power and Sumgayit State University, dedicated to 100th anniversary of March 31 – genocide day of Azerbaijanis committed in 1918.
In the conference, an exhibition and a film about the genocide were watched by head of executive power Zakir Farajov, rector Professor Elkhan Huseynov, representatives of law enforcement agencies, other offices and enterprises; they also commemorated the genocide victims with a minute of silence.
Lectures were delivered in the conference: dean of the faculty of History and geography of Sumgayit State University Professor Adil Bakhshaliyev – “Genocide of March 31, 1918: massacres committed in Baki”; teacher of History and its teaching methods department Aytan Asadova – “Massacres committed by Armenians in Azerbaijani regions in 1918”; head of Research Laboratory of Folklore Studies, Professor Astan Bayramov – “Deportation of Azerbaijanis from Western Azerbaijan”; senior lecturer of History and its teaching methods department Nofal Abdullayev – “About the essence of Heydar Aliyev’s Order “On genocide of Azerbaijanis” dated March 26, 1998”; history teacher of Sumgayit city school №31 Ragif Shirinov – “The tasks arising from Ilham Aliyev’s decree dated January 18, 2018 on 100th anniversary of genocide of Azerbaijanis in 1918”. Speakers in their speeches focused on aggressive Armenian policy, their unreal dream of “from sea to sea Armenia” and genocide acts against our nation. In March, 1918, Armenians brutally killed 12 thousand Azerbaijani citizens during three days in Baki, ten thousands of people in Shamakhi, Guba and other places; residential areas, mosques, cultural monuments were destroyed. In 1918-1920 ten thousands of people were brutally killed in Garabagh, Western Azerbaijan and other regions. In 1988, because of the war that Armenians began 20% of our lands were occupied and more than 1 million citizens became refugees and internally displaced persons. During Heydar Aliyev’s presidency genocide and deportation policy were disclosed. Occupation policy of Armenians was reflected in Heydar Aliyev’s order “About the genocide of Azerbaijanis” signed in 1998 and a legal assessment was given. It was noted that today with Ilham Aliyev’s leadership consequences of Armenian invaders’ acts are being eliminated. One of the steps in this direction was President’s decree dated December 30, 2009 “About the establishment of Genocide Memorial Complex in Guba”. Participants expressed their hopes about return of our native lands and that Armenians’ dreams of “Great Armenia” will be overtaken.
