Development of education is an important component of every state’s development conception. Azerbaijan’s integration to civil world and provision of socio-political development depend on advanced science and education, new scientific knowledge, technology, etc. All these require preparation of highly qualified cadres. President Ilham Aliyev’s attention to development of education shows the importance and significance of state policy in this field. Several measures have been taken for heightening the education level and strengthening material-technical base at Sumgayit State University. New steps are being taken in all levels of education for quality assurance, learning and applying innovative approaches. According to Rector Elkhan Huseynov’s recommendation, courses are organized in the faculties for heightening students" level of preparation. The courses are successfully carried on in engineering faculty. Information technologies and programming department has been functioning since 1992. Information base of the department is developed. Educational documents are adapted to new standards; regular work is done for automation of the process of getting educational documents. The system of automation of teachers" classroom distribution process and automated arrangement system of exam papers for semesters have been developed and are being used. Electronic base of texts of taught subjects’ lectures and laboratory works have been established and is given to students. Software of both automated systems has been arranged in advanced programming languages.

With the initiative of engineering faculty dean docent Ulduz Aghayev and department chief, Professor Agil Huseynov, a course called “Basics of programming” has been organized. The course began on March 15, 2018. In the courses, lectures are delivered by the teachers of the department. Gained theoretical knowledge in the courses is applied on computers in the laboratories under the department. Teachers of the department docent Shafahat Rahimov, senior lecturers Shalala Jafarova, Bahruz Amiraslanov and others are active in the courses. In the future, it is planned to involve not only engineering faculty students, but also other faculty students in the courses. Also, it is intended to deliver lectures by teachers of other departments and faculties.

It should be noted that history and geography faculty is carrying out work in this direction, too. Registers and schedules are ready. Following subjects are taught by the teachers: department of philosophy, sociology and politics: “The history of ancient and medieval social political ideas”, “History of political theories of Azerbaijan” – docent Zahid Bunyadov; “Political processes in modern Azerbaijan”, “Political theories” – docent Telman Niftaliyev; department of history and its teaching methods: “Archeology and primary community history”, “Primary community history” – Neyman Khasayev; “Ancient history” – senior lecturer Nofal Abdullayev and docent Rustam Ahmadov.
