On May 23, the next seminar on “Modern Azerbaijan Republic is the successor of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic” was held at Heydar Aliyev school of SSU.
Rector Professor Elkhan Huseynov congratulated on the 100th anniversary of ADR and talked about its place and role in our statehood history. He noted that although Azerbaijan Democratic Republic existed in difficult conditions, several important problems were solved for Azerbaijani statehood and reforms were conducted in political and social spheres. “Gaining independence in 1918 was a great historic event. During of its 23 months activity in Azerbaijan Democratic Republic fields of army building, border protection, bank and economy, education, public administration and others were developed. It was a huge contribution to existence of our nation in the future, maintenance of statehood principles and passing them on next generations. It is Azerbaijani people’s wealth. ADR established in 1918 could not live longer. It should be noted with regret that on April 28, 1919 troops of XI red army forces entered Azerbaijan by the call of bolsheviks. Thus, the first democratic republic in the East was destroyed. Our nation wished to be independent during many years. It was achieved in 1991 and in 1993 with Heydar Aliyev’s return to power a new and more responsible stage of sovereignty history began. Today, we can proudly say that our country not only declared democratic values, but also ensured them practically. Today’s Azerbaijan Republic is the political and moral successor of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic.”
Several speeches were delivered in the event: docent of the department of History of Azerbaijan and Eastern nations, honored teacher Bahram Mammadli – “Independent Azerbaijan Republic is the successor of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic”; head of History and its teaching methods department Sona Maharramova – “The place of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic in statehood history”; a lecturer of Pedagogy and psychology department Rima Ayyubova – “Education policy of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic”; head of Economics department Lala Mahmudova – “Economic policy of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic”; a first year student of engineering faculty Samira Ismayilova – “Army building and military operations in Azerbaijan Democratic Republic”. They noted that this year was announced “Azerbaijan Democratic Republic year” by President Ilham Aliyev and establishment of ADR is a glorious and proud page in our history. “Unfortunately, after a short period the republic collapsed in April, 1929. At the beginning of 1990s of XX century Azerbaijan gained its sovereignty after the collapse of USSR benefiting from a historic chance. Heydar Aliyev led the country and played important role in sustainable development of the country, implemented significant reconstruction and construction works. Also, he saved the country from criminal forces.” Speakers also noted that Azerbaijan will benefit from Heydar Aliyev’s ideas. Professor Hasan Sadigov delivering speech emphasized that today Azerbaijan is represented in international area with its policy and statehood traditions under President Ilham Aliyev.
