On September 5, representatives of Ministry of Education and UNICEF visited Sumgayit State University.
Rector of University Professor Elkhan Huseynov greeted guests, expressed his satisfaction on meeting with them and gave information about institution history and international relations of the university. He noted that SSU is collaborating with several leading higher educational institutions, international companies and bodies.
Rector spoke about the activity of UNICEF done for the sake of improving condition of children, their health and education all over the world and highly appreciated this activity. He noted that young generation and their education are the future of our country. The works done in the field of protection of children"s rights by the initiative of President Ilham Aliyev and first vice-president Mehriban Aliyeva are commendable. So, execution of “State Program on Development of Inclusive Education for Persons with Disabilities in 2018-2024” approved by Order dated December 14, 2017 of President Ilham Aliyev proves this activity. Special condition has been created for students with disabilities at Sumgayit State University. The center was set up for them. And also the agreement was signed with Union of Disability Organizations for supporting formulation of inclusive society in Azerbaijan and creating equal conditions to persons with disabilities. Representatives of our University participated at “ESFIDIP 543649 TEMPUS-1 The Establishment of a Foundation for the Integration of Disabled People into HEIs of Azerbaijan” in 2013-2016 and were awarded with certificate.
Representative of Ministry of Education Orkhan Abbasov, UNICEF specialist on education of Azerbaijan Leyla Hasanova, international expert of the project Peter Grimes, assistants of the expert Arlene Dela Gruz and Kaisa Sol Gruz took part in the meeting. They noted that it was a big honor for them to visit Sumgayit State University.
Representative of Ministry of Education Orkhan Abbasov notified that the project “Expanding high quality inclusive education for children with disabilities in Azerbaijan” financed by European Union will be realized by UNICEF and Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2018-2020.
UNICEF specialist on education of Azerbaijan Leyla Hasanova noted that UNICEF has been cooperating with Azerbaijani administration, local NGOs and community organizations since 1993 in order to improve life quality of the children living in Azerbaijan. The role of UNICEF is expanding due to development level of the country. Before, the activity of UNICEF was affecting thousands of children via direct aid, at present the purpose of the organization is to provide systematic changes and influence all Azerbaijani children’s lives. They deserve a better life. She noted that Children Fund of UN is satisfied with cooperation with Azerbaijan.
International expert of the project Peter Grimes, assistants of the expert Arlene Dela Gruz and Kaisa Sol Gruz, vice-rector on Teaching Organization and Training Technologies docent Natig Talibov, vice-rector on Humanitarian Issues docent Ramiz Huseynov, vice-rector on Science and Innovations Professor Ramazan Mammadov, head of the Department of Pedagogy and Psychology docent Aytakin Mammadova, head of the International Cooperation Office Samira Mammadova delivered speech about the project and made their suggestions. They noted that cooperation between Sumgayit State University and UNICEF will be successfully continued.
At the end the guests were familiarized with the work of the Centre for students with disabilities.
