On October 31, the presentation of textbook “Bases of Azerbaijani archeology” by Doctor of science on history, well-known archeologist Gafar Jabiyev was held at Sumgayit State University. Famous scholars of our Republic, professor-teacher and student staff of the university took part in the presentation.

Rector of SSU Professor Elkhan Huseynov spoke about the significance of the book and the extensive activity of Gafar Jabiyev, who has special services in Azerbaijani archeology. He notified: “Azerbaijan is a country with ancient history and culture. Rich cultural vestiges were found about development stages of human history during complex scientific research conducted in the territory of our Republic and it was proved that Azerbaijani territory is one of the ancient civilization centers. National leader Heydar Aliyev called special attention on investigation of our history; as a result our historians began to re-explore development phases, in which our nation passed through. Great achievements have been gained in this direction as a consequence of President Ilham Aliyev’s care and attention to exploration of history and specially the field of archeology. Monuments of different periods and the results of conducted research have been reflected in the textbook by well-known archeologist Gafar Jabiyev. Photos and pictures overlap with the texts and increase clearness and scientific character of the book and make it more readable. The work, which is based on archeological excavations and several investigations, is a perfect research work, presented to science and education community. One of the interesting chapters of the book is about biographic essays about life and creativity of famous Azerbaijani archeologists of XX century. This is of great scientific and educative importance”.

The following people delivered speech in the event: dean of the Faculty of History and Geography Professor Adil Bakhshaliyev, head of the Department of Azerbaijani and Eastern European nations’ history Professor Shirkhan Salimov, docent Bahram Mammadli, docent of the Department of History and its teaching methods Neyman Khasayev, associate member of ANAS Jafar Giyasi, Doctor of sciences on history, Professor Kamil Ibrahimov, chairman of “Miras” Public Unity Fariz Khalilli and the students. The speakers emphasized that the work “Bases of Azerbaijani archeology” is of historical importance. Since several archeological monuments of all periods of our history have been explored in this textbook, written by well-known archeologist, Doctor of science on history, Professor Gafar Jabiyev. The work is intended as a textbook for PhD students on specialty of archeology, as well as master and bachelor students of universities studying on specialty of history.

Doctor of science on history, honored journalist Gafar Jabiyev expressed his gratitude to Rector of SSU Professor Elkhan Huseynov for his support to organization of the presentation. He noted: “Recently, our culture, history, archeology, ethnography and monuments have become the subject of research in the consequence of conducted exploration in our country. New scientific directions have been determined and successful outcomes have been gained. Obtaining materials with substantial scientific value as a result of archeological expeditions have led to publication of the book “Bases of Azerbaijani archeology. My investigations and scientific research, carried out for many years, have been accumulated in this work. This is the contribution to youth”.

Afterwards, the students’ questions were responded and an interesting discussion was run.
