November 9 is Azerbaijan State Flag Day. State flag of our Republic is a symbol of state sovereignty, expressing its freedom, identity of the nation and struggle for concrete goals.

A series of events and conferences are held at Sumgayit State University on occasion of centennial of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. On November 6, mobile exhibition entitled “Our flag – our pride” was organized with the initiative of Central library named after S.Vurghun.

Rector of university Professor Elkhan Huseynov congratulated exhibition attendees on occasion of State Flag Day, appreciated organization of the exhibition and highlighted its significance. The rector widely spoke about history of Democratic Republic and emphasized importance of establishment of first modern state of Muslim East in Azerbaijan. He noted: “Intellectuals of Azerbaijan immortalized rich republican ideas, contributed to the nation’s history and made substantial strides. Azerbaijan Democratic Republic gained great achievements; first parliament and government of Azerbaijan were organized, state borders were determined, the flag, anthem and coat of arms were set, Azerbaijani language was declared a state language. Great leader Heydar Aliyev highly evaluated ADR’s activity and attached importance in development of republican traditions. It is not coincidence that 80th anniversary of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic was widely celebrated in state level with the initiative and leadership of National leader Heydar Aliyev. This year we celebrate centennial of the establishment of ADR. The order about “100th jubilee of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic” was signed by President Ilham Aliyev and 2018 was declared “The year of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic” in our republic. A series of events are held in the country and abroad. Our university also holds events and exhibitions. Mobile exhibitions are held in our university with the initiative of Central library named after S.Vurghun regularly. The object of holding this kind of exhibitions is increasing the interest of youth to reading and to books”. Rector expressed his gratitude to collective of Central library named after S.Vurghun for the organization of exhibition.

Chairwoman of Service department of Central library named after S.Vurghun Naila Asgarova thanked to administration of Sumgayit State University for created circumstances and notified that the purpose of organizing the exhibition is to instill the sense of love and affection in youth to homeland and flag and to conduct promotion of literature among youth in the fund of the library.

It should be noted that about 200 books and journals were displayed in the exhibition. The books were demonstrated about life and political activity of prominent statesman, National leader Heydar Aliyev and the founders of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic.

The exhibition was welcomed by the students.
