On November 7, the event entitled “The Moon Shining in the East” was held at Sumgayit State University on occasion of State Flag Day of Azerbaijan Republic.

After sounding State anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the video was displayed about State flag.

Rector of university Professor Elkhan Huseynov launched the event and congratulated our nation on occasion of the holiday, which demonstrates respect and esteem to state symbols. Rector noted that State flag was adopted in the government meeting of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic on November 9, 1918 and owned state status till April, 1920. “The flag was declared as the State flag of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic in the session held by leadership of Great leader Heydar Aliyev, head of the Supreme Council of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic on November 17, 1990. On February 5, 1991, the Supreme Soviet of Azerbaijan Republic had adopted the Law “About State Flag of Azerbaijan Republic” and three colored flag was gained the status of the State flag. According to the order dated November 17, 2009 of President of Azerbaijan Republic Ilham Aliyev, November 9 has become a special date for world Azerbaijanis. It is important to celebrate the holiday as a national holiday in terms of statehood, national solidarity, patriotism and promotion of our symbols. Great achievements have been gained in the field of democratic and legal state building in our independent republic as a result of successful policy run by country administration; our statehood has strengthened, defense power of the republic has increased. We will liberate our lands from occupation as a consequence of Supreme Commander-in Chief Ilham Aliyev’s policy and our three-colored flag will wave in Karabagh”, he said.

Lecturer of the Faculty of History and geography docent Javid Mamiyev, the students of the Faculty Teymur Aslanli and Ali Miriyev gave wide information about State flag of the Republic of Azerbaijan. They notified that State flag of Azerbaijan Republic is a symbol of state sovereignty and our national value.

Afterwards, the event went on with interesting compositions. Nurana Alizade, Ibrahim Ganiyev and Aliya Alizade sounded patriotic songs and recited poems.

The sketches entitled “The voice of history”, “Light in darkness”, “Karabagh doors” were displayed in the event.

The students performed “Ganjlik” by Gara Garayev and “Azerbaijan” by Emin Sabitoglu with the accompaniment of the conductor, PhD on art, docent Telman Ganiyev.

Rector of university Professor Elkhan Huseynov awarded the students with document of gratitude for organization of the event. He noted that every country’s future depends on its sober-minded youth. This kind of events serves to increase the love of young people to motherland and flag. It shows that our youth is ready to Supreme Commander-in Chief’s order and capable to release our lands.
