The South Caucasus as a region of peace and cooperation
In his speeches, President Ilham Aliyev repeatedly stressed that Azerbaijan wants to see the South Caucasus as a region of peace, cooperation and interaction. After the 44-day war, new opportunities have emerged for the establishment of a format of cooperation, but, unfortunately, Armenia is still reluctant to launch a format of trilateral interaction in the South Caucasus. Today is the time for the South Caucasus to demonstrate its commitment to peace, security and stability. Armenia has officially adopted five key principles put forward by Azerbaijan in connection with the peace agreement. As soon as the Second Karabakh War ended, Azerbaijan began to openly support the conclusion of a peace agreement and the establishment of a joint commission on the delimitation of borders. The five principles proposed by Azerbaijan are relevant  with international law norms. Armenia's adherence to its initial position which includes the adoption of these principles provides the basis for the signing of a peace agreement.
In a joint statement to press with President of the Republic of Lithuania Gitanas Nauseda on May 18, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev emphasized that the delimitation of borders must begin. For about 30 years, the state border with Armenia, including other regions of Azerbaijan, which makes up 20 percent of the territory has been under occupation. Therefore, the need to delimit borders is inevitable.
The head of state said in a statement that Armenia's irresponsible position was a matter of concern. Azerbaijan set up the working group on time and was ready to send a delegation. However, on April 29, Armenia canceled the already agreed meeting. Armenia also refused to hold a new meeting on the border on May 7-11. We are waiting for any new dates from Armenia to start work.
During the statements of the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Lithuania, the President reiterated Azerbaijan's position and drew attention to the Armenian vandalism: Now Azerbaijan is facing the issue of reconstruction and revitalization of the territories. As a result of the occupation, everything was destroyed. International experts call Aghdam, one of the liberated cities, "Hiroshima of the Caucasus." Despite all these atrocities and vandalism, the President of Azerbaijan once again declares his commitment to peace. He stressed his interest in resolving all issues at the legal level and deepening EU-Azerbaijan cooperation in this area.
Referring to the relations between the European Union and Azerbaijan, President Ilham Aliyev said that the European Union is Azerbaijan's main trade partner. EU-Azerbaijan cooperation is developing successfully. Energy, transport security, trade are promising areas of cooperation. Given the fact that we have started exporting natural gas to Europe and the fact that oil and gas prices are rising  trade turnover with the European Union has increased this year. Azerbaijan has already signed strategic partnership agreements with nine members of EU. This shows that the European Union is as interested in this cooperation as Azerbaijan.
In his statement, President Ilham Aliyev once again gave a clear message to the world community: “Azerbaijan wants to see the South Caucasus as a region of peace and cooperation. The path taken by Armenia does not bode well for them. Therefore, Armenia must not miss the opportunity for peace and accept the new realities created by Azerbaijan in the region. "
