The 44-day Patriotic war is our glorious history!
On December 2, 2020, Mr. President Ilham Aliyev signed the Decree on the establishment of the day of the beginning of the Patriotic War as the Day of Remembrance in the Republic of Azerbaijan. Based on the decree, the state highly appreciates the bravery of the fighting sons of Azerbaijan in the Patriotic war, pays tribute to the souls of all our martyrs, and honors their memory.
As a clear example of this, on September 27, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, and first vice-president, Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva, visited Fuzuli district. The head of state and the first lady laid flowers to the memorial obelisk dedicated to September 27 Memorial Day in Karakhanbeyli village of Fuzuli district.
The President of Azerbaijan made a speech here. During his speech, Mr. President prayed for mercy to our martyrs who died for the liberation of our lands occupied by the enemy, and said that the services of our heroic soldiers and officers to the motherland were appreciated, and the blood of our martyrs did not remain unavenged.
Mr. Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, talking about the turning of the 44-day Patriotic War into a glorious history, noted that the people of Azerbaijan mobilized all their strength and united as a fist to expel the enemy from our native land.
It is no coincidence that a monument was erected in honor of our martyrs near the village of Garakhanbeyli, one of the first five villages of our land, which was occupied for nearly 30 years by our heroic soldiers and officers, led by the Commander-in-Chief, on the first day of the war. This is the place where our first soldiers were martyred . On the other hand, the remembrance day coincided with the liberation of these villages.
As Mr. President mentioned, Azerbaijani fighters broke through the enemy"s first line of defense and started attacking from here. Our heroic soldiers and officers, who were not afraid of death despite the fact that they had several lines of trenches, sacrificed their lives and proved that they did not hesitate to die so that our tricolor flag could fly in other occupied lands.
It is an unprecedented event in world military history that the 30-year occupation was ended in 44 days. One of the main reasons for this was that, unlike dishonorable Armenians, these battles were fought not for the occupation of foreign lands, but for the liberation of our historical lands. On the other hand, it was due to the extremely high fighting ability and patriotism of our soldiers and officers. As a result of all this, the occupation of nearly 300 cities and villages of our country was ended and freed from the enemy in just 44 days.
At the end, Mr. President noted that today, commemorating the dear memory of our martyrs, each of us should once again make a promise and oath that we will forever stand guard over our independence, and our territorial integrity. We will not let him create a threat for us again. If we see it, we will act immediately. I"m sure it won"t be necessary. Because the increasing power of our country, including military power is the guarantor of our independence. Once again, wishing for mercy to our martyrs, I must state that their dear memory will live forever in the hearts of the Azerbaijani people.
