DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS

The Department of Physics was founded in 1976 on the basis of the Department of Higher Mathematics and Physics, until 1990 it was headed by Prof. E.M. Gocayev, in 1990-1996 by Associate Professor E.H. Mammadov, and in 1996-2001 by Prof. M.M. Zarbaliyev. In 2002, the Department of General Physics and Theoretical Physics were established on the basis of the Department of Physics, and in 2004, the Departments of Solid State Electronics and Semiconductor Physics were established on the basis of these departments. In 2014, the solid state electronics department was renamed the solid state physics department. Assoc. R.M. Ismayilov headed the solid state physics department, and prof. M.M. Zarbaliyev headed the semiconductor physics department. On 30.03.2017, both departments were merged and named the Solid State and Semiconductor Physics Department.The Department of Physics and its Teaching Methodology was established in 2006 on the basis of the Department of Physics and Mathematics Teaching Methodology. According to the decision of the Scientific Council of Sumgayit State University dated 15.07.2009, the Department of Teaching Methodology of Physics and Mathematics was divided into two independent departments: Teaching Methodology of Physics and Teaching Methodology of Mathematics. According to the decision of the Scientific Council of Sumgait State University dated 30.03.2017, the Departments of General Physics and Teaching Methodology of Physics were merged and the Department of Physics and its Teaching Methodology was created on their basis. Since 2014, the department has been headed by associate professor Fuad Aziz oglu Mammadov. From 01.05.2024, the Department of Solid State and Semiconductor Physics and the Department of Physics and its Teaching Methodology were abolished, and the Department of Physics was established on their basis, and the position of the head of the department was entrusted to Guliyeva Gulnara Huseyn gizi.

Teaching-methodical and scientific activities of the department:
14 teaching aids, 6 methodical aids, more than 250 scientific articles and theses, 65 subject programs have been published by the department.
Scientific research conducted in the department is multifaceted.Acquisition of TlJ_(1-x) 〖Ln〗_x 〖Gd〗_x S_2 〖Sl〗_2 crystals, determination of their physical properties, investigation of application fields. Determination of mechanical properties of ASPA composites.Determination of the Klein-Fock-Gordon equation for different potentials based on the Nikiforov-Uvorov method. Teaching methods and methodology of physics in continuous education system Institute of Physics of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Institute of Photoelectronics, Baku State University, National Aviation Academy, Azerbaijan Technical University, Laboratory of Physics of Magnetic Materials of the Scientific and Practical Center of the State Union of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Belarus, Biophysics and Information in Medicine of the Bukhara State Medical Institute of the Republic of Uzbekistan has scientific relations with the Department of Technologies. In November 2022, the staff of the department were awarded the honorary title of "Emerited teacher" by the decree of the President of the Republic for the occasion of the 60th anniversary of Sumgait State University and for their services in the development of education in Azerbaijan, and the title of "Advanced Education Worker" and many teachers were awarded Honorary diploma by the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
