On May 2, the event dedicated to 110th anniversary of Hamid Arasli was held at Sumgayit State University.

Commencing the event, Rector Professor Elkhan Huseynov spoke about life and creativity of great writer. He said: “Ancient Ganja bestowed several outstanding figures to Azerbaijani science, literature and art. Academician Hamid Arasli is one of them. He is known as a researcher of Khaqani Shirvani, Nizami Ganjavi, Mahammad Fuzuli, Saib Tabrizi, Mirza Fatali Akhundov and others in Azerbaijani literary criticism. He was awarded several badges and medals, as well as the title of honorary scientist of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan. Hamid Arasli’s “Great Azerbaijani poet Fuzuli”, “Imadeddin Nasimi”, “Khaqani Shirvani”, “The poet’s life” and other works are welcomed with sympathy”.

Rector also notified: “Hamid Arasli was one of those who actively participated at arrangement of 600th jubilee of Imadeddin Nasimi. His monograph “Imadeddin Nasimi” was published in circulation of 16,000 copies in Azerbaijani, Turkish, Arabian, Russian, Persian, English and French. National leader Heydar Aliyev has great services in publishing this book. It was intended to prevent arrangement of this jubilee both in Azerbaijan and Moscow. Declaration of 2019 “Year of Nasimi” by President Ilham Aliyev is a sample of continuation of Heydar Aliyev’s care to our literature and culture. And also Hamid Arasli issued “Kitabi-Dede Qorqut” for the first time, though it was prohibited in 50s of XX century. He read lectures on medieval Azerbaijani literature in Philology faculty of Baku State University for long years and worked as department chief for about 20 years. The textbooks written by him for universities and secondary schools have been issued with mass editions for long years. Along with his effective pedagogical activity, Hamid Arasli was also a superior organizer. He was department head, director of Institute of Literature named after Nizami Ganjavi, director of Institute of Near and Middle Eastern nations of Academy”.

The following lecturers delivered speech in the event: dean of Philology faculty docent Sevinj Hamzayeva – “Hamid Arasli in memories”; chairman of Department of Azerbaijani and foreign countries literature Professor Avtandil Mammadov – “Hamid Arasli and Azerbaijani folklore”; prof. Rafiq Yusifoglu – “Mahammad Fuzuli in researches of Hamid Arasli”; senior lecturer, PhD in philology Rovshan Mammadov – “Classic researcher of our classic literature”. The speakers spoke about creativity of Hamid Arasli and pointed out that classic literature issues, folklore studies, textual criticism, studies about eastern nations literature and modern literature have special place in his heritage.

At the end, chairwoman of Nizami studies department of Institute of Literature of ANAS after Nizami Ganjavi, professor, correspondent member of ANAS Nushaba Arasli expressed her gratitude to the President and university administration for marking 110th anniversary of her father.
