On December 17, at Sumgayit State University with organizational support of the Institute of Literature after Nizami Ganjavi of ANAS an event was held dedicated to the 110th anniversary of the famous literary critic, State Prize laureate, Honored Scientist, Academician Mammad Jafar Jafarov.

Initially, the event participants familiarized themselves with the exhibition of books by the academician. In the exhibition it was demonstrated the books by Mammad Jafar Jafarov written in Azerbaijani and Russian languages - “About our classics”, “Selected works”, “Romance of life”, “Jalil Mammadgulizade”, “Rare people”, “Russian literature of the XIX century”, “On paths to art ”,“ Literary-critical views of M.F. Akhundov ”,“ You cannot be forgotten ”,“ From the history of Azerbaijani-Russian literary relations ”,“ The personality of the thinker ”,“ Huseyn Javid ”,“ Russian classics ”,“ Taras Shevchenko ”,“ Leave, you are still a traitor ”and the book “Mammad Jafar. Bibliography".

The event was opened by the vice-rector for Humanitarian Affairs docent Ramiz Huseynov. He greeted the guests and said that on April 15, 2019, President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree “On the 110th anniversary of Academician Mammad Jafar Jafarov.” According to this decree, events are held in the republic dedicated to the life and work of the academician. The vice-rector noted that academician Mammad Jafar Jafarov devoted 60 years of his life to the development of literary and theoretical thought, the study of the history and theory of literature, literary connections and topical issues of aesthetics. His scientific works also analyze the works of Nizami Ganjavi, Fizuli, M.F. Akhundzade, Jalil Mammadguluzade, Mirza Alekber Sabir, Huseyn Javid and Samed Vurghun. The famous scientist has been engaged in successful pedagogical activities for a long time. He is the author of valuable textbooks, has great achievements in the training of scientific personnel.

The first comprehensive study on the formation and development of the romantic movement in Azerbaijani literature is also associated with the name of academician Mammad Jafar Jafarov. His scientific work “History of Russian Literature of the 19th Century” (1970, 1974) in three volumes is a serious scientific research related to Russian literature in Azerbaijan.

The following lecturers delivered speech in the event: the professor of the Department of Literature of Azerbaijan and foreign countries Rafig Yusifoglu with a report "Mammad Jafar and World Literature", Department head of Literature Theory of Institute of Literature after Nizami Ganjavi of ANAS, professor Tahira Mammad - with the report “Scientific heritage of Mammad Jafar”, senior lecturer of the Department of the Azerbaijani language and methods of its teaching Nemat Ibayev with a report "Mammad Jafar at the top of wisdom", an employee of the Institute of Literature named after Nizami Ganjavi of ANAS, Doctor of Philosophy Parvana Isayeva - with the report "Creativity of Jalil Mammadguluzade and Huseyn Javid in the studies of Mammad Jafar Jafarov, associate professor of the Department of Azerbaijani and Foreign Literature Dayanat Jumanov - with the report" Mammad Jafar as a researcher of Azerbaijani romanticism ".

Speakers emphasized that Mammad Jafar was an intelligent, bright personality and the author of fundamental works on the history and theory of literature, its aesthetics and philosophy.

In conclusion, the students performed the literary composition “And That Is True” from the book of stories of Mammad Jafar “Rare People”.
