On December 26, training was held at the Heydar Aliyev School of Sumgayit State University on "Heydar Aliyev as the founder of the world Azerbaijanis' solidarity".

Rector Prof. Elkhan Huseynov opened the event with a welcoming speech and spoke about the unity and solidarity of the Azerbaijanis of the world, as well as the achievements of our country. Speaking about the history and importance of the ideas of Azerbaijanism and national solidarity, the rector stressed that the national leader Heydar Aliyev has provided unprecedented services to the achievement of national solidarity, formation and organization of the Azerbaijani Diaspora in the world.

The return of national leader Heydar Aliyev from Moscow to Nakhchivan on July 22, 1990 became a turning point in the historical fate of the Azerbaijani people and statehood. This return has become a reflection of the expression of faith and objective historical need to be with the people in the turbulent and hard days of the homeland. On December 16, 1991, at the initiative of national leader Heydar Aliyev, the Decree of the Supreme Assembly of the Autonomous Republic of Nakhchivan on “The 31st of December, the Day of Solidarity and Unity of World Azerbaijanis” united the process of unification of the world Azerbaijanis. Important measures have been taken in this direction as a result of the far-sighted policy of the genius, noting that the power of the country is measured not only by political and economic resources but also by the diaspora and lobbying activities overseas. It was the initiative of the genius son of our people to hold the first Congress of World Azerbaijanis in Baku on November 9-10, 2001, the peak of national solidarity and the beginning of the decisive phase in the field of diaspora construction. The rector also noted that the ideas of national unity and Azerbaijanism of the great leader Heydar Aliyev are successfully continued today by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. The head of our state deeply appreciated Azerbaijanis all over the world for their contribution to the solidarity of the world Azerbaijanis, efforts to raise national spirit in our compatriots living abroad, identifying ideological and political contours of purposeful activities in this area. The work carried out by the head of state and the policy pursued by him now plays an important role in conveying the truths of Azerbaijan to the world.

At the end of his speech, the rector once again congratulated the staff on the occasion of the Solidarity Day of World Azerbaijanis and the New Year and wished them long life, good health and prosperous days.

Afterwards the following people delivered speech in the event: dean of the Faculty of Philology, associate professor Sevinj Hamzayeva -"Heydar Aliyev as the founder of the World Azerbaijanis’ Solidarity", advisor professor of the Department of Philosophy, sociology and political science, Presidential scholar, Hasan Sadigov- “The role of Heydar Aliyev in the organization of the Azerbaijani Diaspora”, chairwoman of the Department of Pedagogy and psychology PhD in pedagogy Aytakin Mammadova - "The Congresses of World Azerbaijanis in strengthening national solidarity", head of Foreign Languages Department, Professor Nigar Isgandarova - "National Solidarity Policy - during administration of President Ilham Aliyev", third year student of Philology Faculty Nazrin Adigozalzade - "Activities of Heydar Aliyev Foundation in the implementation of National Solidarity Policy". It was noted that the wide celebration of World Azerbaijanis’ Solidarity Day annually as a holiday in many foreign countries where Azerbaijanis live proves that the unity and solidarity movement established by the great leader Heydar Aliyev is very important for the protection of the state independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

At the end of the event, the winners of the competition “The best article”, which was held for the study and promotion of the life and legacy of the national leader Heydar Aliyev, organized by the Student Trade Union Committee, were awarded with awards and certificates by the rector Prof. Elkhan Huseynov.
