THE TEACHING PROCESS AT THE FACULTY OF MATHEMATICS CONTINUES SUCCESSFULLY ONLINE
In order to ensure the sustainability of the educational process on the eve of the spread of the coronavirus, following the recommendations of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the administration of Sumgayit State University, the Faculty of Mathematics began online (distance) education on March 12.
Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics, associate professor Zafar Huseynov noted that the digital ecosystem of the university allows organizing the educational process remotely. Using the Microsoft Teams platform and Moodle system, teaching materials for all subjects were uploaded to the system and students had free access to those materials. The vast majority of students are enrolled in these systems. For example, 546 out of 614 bachelor and master students were registered at the faculty. However, some students are unable to attend online classes due to certain reasons (limited Internet access). The vast majority of lessons are videotaped so that such students can later watch the course materials. Thus, the professor-teaching staff of the faculty conducts classes using video technology. The responsible persons of the departments were instructed to prepare and submit a schedule for all distance learning courses, taking into account the technical capabilities and appropriate methodological support. Currently, teachers conduct online classes according to this schedule.
The dean added that this is the first time that this form of education is applied to our university. Although it is not possible to master 100% of educational programs in this way, it is the right way in the current situation. The organization of classes in this way is welcomed by parents and students. Students express their satisfaction through video.
