AN EDUCATIONAL ONLINE EVENT ON "COVID-19 AND HUMAN PSYCHOLOGY" WAS HELD AT SSU
An educational online event on "COVID-19 and human psychology" dedicated to "Psychology Day" was organized by the Student Youth Organization of Sumgayit State University and supported by the Department of Pedagogy and Psychology of the Faculty of Philology.
Opening the event, Chairman of the Student Youth Organization Tayfun Hajili said that, as everyone knows, educational institutions have suspended their activities for about three months by the decision of the Operative Headquarters under the Cabinet of Ministers to protect the health of our people and avoid the scourge of coronavirus. A new type of pneumonia - COVID-19 virus - was discovered in mid-December 2019 in Wuhan, China. The coronavirus pandemic has taken the whole world by storm, changed people's lifestyles and social problems in a completely new direction, and exposed their work and activities to unexpected effects. The sudden arrival of the calamity that befell us covered all spheres of public life. The motto "Stay at home" became the motto of the time, social isolation of people was considered an important condition. However, thanks to the efforts of our teachers, we continued our education online. Today we continue our lessons remotely with Whatsapp, Zoom, Moodle, Microsoft Teams systems. I would like to note that the Student Youth Organization is doing a great job in accordance with the requirements of the day for the effective organization of students' leisure time. In this regard, our organization held an online intellectual game among the students of Sumgayit State University within the project "Stay at home, don’t stay away from education" at the initiative of the Ministry of Education. The team of 7 faculties took part in the game. In addition, students of the university and members of various faculties made a video about the company "Stay at home" and shared it on social networks.
The head of the Department of Pedagogy and Psychology, associate professor Aytekin Mammadova, said that the coronavirus nightmare that is engulfing mankind is raging. This dangerous virus, which has put many countries in a difficult situation and caused heavy losses, seems to be challenging everyone. All countries have experienced an economic downturn, many people have lost their jobs, and the population has faced serious difficulties. As Azerbaijan is also a part of the world, it could not avoid the consequences of this nightmare. However, our country is able to emerge from the pandemic with less loss than the world's major powers - the United States, Italy, Iran, Spain, China, Germany and others. The main reason for this is the political course of our President and the high value he attaches to the human factor.
Associate professors of the Department of Pedagogy and Psychology delivered speech: Jeyhun Mammadov "Behavioral models of COVID-19 in the world", Sever Mirzayeva "The impact of the pandemic on human psychological health", Ayna Hajiyeva "The socio-psychological impact of the pandemic on personality", Shahnaz Guliyeva "Psychological issues of the impact of information on COVID-19 on people's behavior and attitudes". They said that a pandemic is always a stress for every member of society. Such a tense situation inevitably has a negative effect on people's psychology. Because people have different psychological states, their reactions to such situations are also different. At such time, people are divided into two main psychological groups: those who are afraid of the virus and those who deny its existence. Both the first and the second psychological state affect a person's behavior. The speakers also noted that the analysis of world statistics shows that the more citizens understand the responsibility of the problem and follow the rules of quarantine, the lower the number of patients and infections in those countries. Noting that the best psychological struggle in such a situation is enlightenment, the speakers said that enough measures have been taken in our country in this regard.
Dean of the Faculty of Philology, associate professor Sevinj Hamzayeva said that the steps taken by President Ilham Aliyev to prevent the spread of the coronavirus pandemic in our country and the work done to protect the health of the population are met with great sympathy by citizens.
Vice-rector for Humanitarian Affairs Ramiz Huseynov thanked everyone who contributed to the event. He stressed the importance of awareness-raising activities aimed at preventing the spread of the dangerous virus as the most important area of preventive measures. He noted that the participation and efforts of all members of society, educators, doctors and intellectuals in this process are having a positive effect. For some time now, all countries of the world have been taking large-scale, urgent steps to prevent the consequences of the threat of a coronavirus pandemic and its spread. Our country has also been fully mobilized with systematic and important measures to prevent the serious consequences of the pandemic, which has caused a deep economic and financial crisis in the world. The foresight of President Ilham Aliyev, his immediate and serious response to the process, and all the important steps taken under his leadership have become an example for other countries.
The vice-rector also noted that the presidency of our country in the Non-Aligned Movement, the second largest international institution in the world and represented by 120 countries, shows the growing confidence in Azerbaijan in the world and its international prestige. He noted that the holding of the Non-Aligned Movement Summit on "Together against COVID-19" on the initiative of President Ilham Aliyev on the fight against coronavirus via video conference in the Contact Group format is an example of support for Azerbaijan's global efforts by the international community.
At the end of the speeches, there was a wide online exchange of views, a number of proposals were made to strengthen the fight against coronavirus and expand awareness.
