OUR COLLABORATORS PARTICIPATED IN INTERNATIONAL WEBINARS
From 13 to 20 May, by the initiative of the British Council, which operates in our country the webinars were held on the following topics: "The Future of Universities: Do we need a campus or what will the future of universities be?" and “What is the future of online assessment for universities?” .
Employees of Sumgayit State University: Head of the Department of Foreign Languages of the Faculty of Philology, Professor Nigar Isgandarov, Senior lecturer of the Faculty of History and Geography Sarvan Badalov, employees of the Department of International Cooperation and Foreign Students Nigar Mammadova and Natavan Guliyeva took part in the webinars.
The webinar was moderated by Dr. Victoria Clark, Global Evaluation Solutions Manager of British Council. Speakers of the two-day webinar were Prof. Yusuf Baran - Rector of the Izmir Institute of Technology, Turkey, Sam Brenton Director of the Center for Education, Innovation and Development at the University of London, UK, Prof. Roderick Watkins -Vice-rector of the University of Anglia Ruskin, Professor Yoram Kalman, Director of Management and Economics Department at the Open University of Israel.
It was noted that COVID-19 has caused some stagnation and confusion in people"s lives, as well as universities in the world. Nevertheless, it was the educational institutions, and especially the higher education institutions, that showed their agility in this situation. A number of universities were ready for online education and made the transition easily because they had implemented distance learning for years. However, there were some educational institutions that had to install this platform in a short period of time and involve their teachers and students in the teaching process.
In this unexpected situation, questions were raised about the adoption of new approaches by universities and the establishment of online teaching.
It was discussed how the resumption of education in the post-pandemic era would affect campuses, and whether education on campus or at home would be more effective. It was decided that in the post-pandemic era, teachers should combine both online and real education so that they do not lose the skills they have acquired during their online education.
Online assessment opportunities were discussed in the webinar on "What is the future of online assessment for universities?". It was noted that this allows for more innovation. They also exchanged views on access to technology, as well as issues related to data integrity and test security. The impact of technology-enhanced assessment on both teaching and learning was also considered.
The speakers were asked a number of questions and various comments were written. Our participants also commented on the webinar. They noted the usefulness of the webinar in the form of a broad discussion.
