On May 22, an online training on "Independent Azerbaijan founded by Heydar Aliyev is a successor of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic" was held at the Heydar Aliyev School of Sumgayit State University under the Heydar Aliyev Center.

Opening the event, the rector of the university, Professor Elkhan Huseynov, congratulated the staff on the occasion of May 28 Republic Day and gave detailed information about the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, which was established as the first independent state in the Muslim East and lasted only 23 months. He noted that the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (ADR) is a very important stage in the history of statehood of our people. The establishment of the first democratic republic in the Muslim East by the Azerbaijani people at the beginning of the last century is a historical event that is a source of great pride for us. The establishment of the ADR was a brilliant embodiment of the national identity and ideals of our people. It also means that the foundation of democracy in the East was laid by the Azerbaijani people. The rector also said that despite living only 23 months, the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic has fulfilled a historic mission and carried out large-scale democratic reforms. The first Parliament and Government of Azerbaijan, the state apparatus were organized, the country's borders were defined, the flag, anthem and coat of arms were created, the mother tongue was declared the state language, and serious measures were taken in the field of state building. The country's territorial integrity and national security were ensured, high-capacity military units were established in a short time, state bodies were established in accordance with national requirements and democratic principles, special attention was paid to the development of education and culture, Azerbaijan's first university was established. During the 23 months of its existence, the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic has also carried out an important historical mission by introducing our people to the world. Today we are proud to say that the independent Republic of Azerbaijan successfully continues all the democratic traditions of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic and enriches them with new shades. For 29 years, Azerbaijan has been moving forward with confidence on the path to independence. National leader of the Azerbaijani people, founder and founder of the independent Azerbaijani state Heydar Aliyev has always praised the activities of the Democratic Republic and stated that the modern independent Republic is the successor of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. The tricolor flag of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic was first officially adopted by the Supreme Assembly of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic on the initiative and under the leadership of great leader Heydar Aliyev. Also, the orders of the National Leader on the high-level celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Republic by the state were of great historical significance. At present, President Ilham Aliyev highly appreciates the historical significance and activity of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. The announcement of 2018 by President Ilham Aliyev as the "Year of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic" in our country also serves to carry out an important historical mission in this regard.

Afterwards the following people delivered presentation in the training: Professor Shirkhan Salimov, head of the Department of History of Azerbaijan and Eastern European peoples- on "Independent Azerbaijan founded by Heydar Aliyev is a successor of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic", Samin Gojayev, senior lecturer of the Department of History of Azerbaijan and Eastern European peoples, "Traditions of Independent Azerbaijan and Democratic Republic, Javid Mamiyev, associate professor of Department of Philosophy, Sociology and Political Science, "The role of Heydar Aliyev in the restoration of the attributes of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic", Professor Avtandil Mammadov, head of the Department of Azerbaijani and Foreign Literature - "Educational Policy of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic", Nofal Abdullayev, senior lecturer of the Department of History and its teaching methods – “Domestic policy of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic ", Kanan Namazov, a second-year student of the Faculty of Chemistry and Biology- "The Azerbaijan Democratic Republic in the system of international relations." They said that May 28 has forever entered the history of the Azerbaijani people as a bright page. Despite the fact that the first democratic republic of our people, longing for centuries of independence and national freedom, lived only 23 months, its activity is one of the most memorable stages in our history. The speakers stressed that special attention is paid to the ideas of independence of the Democratic Republic, the perpetuation of the names of the founders of the Republic, the study of this history in our country. They noted that currently Azerbaijan is achieving new successes under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, a worthy successor of the political course of our great leader Heydar Aliyev. Socio-economic development of the Republic of Azerbaijan is accelerating, our success in all spheres of life, domestic and foreign policy is growing every year.
