Sumgayit State University is holding a series of online events dedicated to the 29th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide, one of the most terrible tragedies that befell the people of Azerbaijan.

The first lessons in all faculties of the university were dedicated to the Khojaly tragedy and the memory of the victims of the genocide. During the lessons, teachers told about the horrors of the tragedy committed against the residents of Khojaly with the participation of the Armenian armed forces and the 366th motorized infantry regiment of the Soviet army.

An online event dedicated to the Khojaly genocide was held at the Faculty of Chemistry and Biology on February 24.

The event began with a minute of silence in memory of the Khojaly victims.

The dean of the faculty, associate professor Mahal Muradov, called the Khojaly genocide the worst tragedy of the last century. He noted that the atrocities committed by Armenians in this ancient Turkic land are neither humane nor a crime incompatible with the laws of war. Civilians were brutally murdered. For 200 years, the people of Azerbaijan have been subjected to the policy of ethnic cleansing and genocide by Armenian nationalists. The people of Azerbaijan were expelled from their historical lands, became refugees and internally displaced persons, and all this was accompanied by massacres by Armenians. The most horrific of such terrorist acts was the Khojaly genocide. By creating this picture, the Armenians wanted to frighten the eyes of the Azerbaijani people and decide the fate of Karabakh in their favor. However, as a result of the 44-day Patriotic War of 2020, we won a historic victory as a result of the wise policy of our Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev and the bravery of our victorious army, and re-liberated our ancestral land that had been under enemy occupation for 30 years. In general, we will not forget the tragedies, genocides and vandalism committed by the hated enemy. It is our blood memory in the Khojaly genocide committed by the hated enemy on February 26. Deputy Dean, Associate Professor Sabir Akbarov, Head of the Department of Chemistry and its Teaching Methods, Associate Professor Musa Mustafayev said that one of the most terrible and tragic events in the history of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh since 1988 took place in Khojaly. The Khojaly tragedy is one of the most horrific and brutal tragedies of the 20th century. Today, under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, purposeful and consistent work is being done to inform the world community about the crimes committed by Armenian nationalists against our people, including the Khojaly tragedy, and to recognize it as genocide. The international campaign "Justice for Khojaly!" created on the initiative of Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva, is very successful in this direction, and the commemoration of the victims of the Khojaly tragedy is already being marked in most countries around the world.
