On February 25, Sumgayit State University"s Faculty of Philology organized an online event dedicated to the 29th anniversary of the Khojaly tragedy, entitled "Tragedy of the Century - The Road to Khojaly."

Opening the event, Dean of the Faculty of Philology, Associate Professor Sevinj Hamzayeva said that 29 years have passed since the Khojaly genocide, which entered the history of our people and mankind as a bloody tragedy. As a result of the inhumane policy of inhumane ethnic cleansing and genocide carried out by the Armenians against the Azerbaijanis, our people were subjected to severe deprivation, national tragedy and hardship. The Khojaly genocide is one of the bloodiest and most tragic pages of this abominable and insidious policy. The political and legal assessment of the Khojaly genocide was given only after the return of our national leader Heydar Aliyev to power in our country. The President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, has identified the recognition of the Khojaly genocide throughout the world as one of the main directions of our state"s foreign policy. In this regard, the First Vice-President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mehriban Aliyeva, has rendered unparalleled services in conveying the truth about the Khojaly genocide to the world community. The international propaganda campaign "Justice for Khojaly!", launched in 2008 on the initiative of Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva, is being successfully implemented.

Associate Professor Sevinj Hamzayeva also noted that our occupied territories was released as a result of the counter-offensive carried out by the Azerbaijani Army on September 27, 2020 in order to prevent the Armenian aggression against our country, to ensure the security of the civilian population, to end the long occupation. Khojaly residents will soon return to their hometowns.

Doctor of Philology, Professor, Poet, Publicist Rafig Aliyev and Doctor of Philology, Professor Aslan Bayramov said that our people under the leadership of Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev and as a result of the heroism of brave soldiers and officers of the glorious Azerbaijani Army took revenge on the Khojaly genocide by winning.

Then a video reflecting Armenian vandalism was presented.

Later, Farhad Alakbarli, a first-year student of the Faculty of Chemistry and Biology, gave a speech on "Khojaly tragedy in Azerbaijani sculpture" in front of the Khojaly monument.

Afterwards a scene called "Wake up Khojaly!" performed by Hanifa Zamanli, a student of the Faculty of Economics and Management. Imran Huseynli, a second-year student of the Faculty of Philology, made a presentation entitled "Our tragedies in our works of art." Students from different faculties of the university presented paintings dedicated to the Khojaly genocide.

After the exhibition of paintings, the song "Khojaly" performed by Aytaj Heydarli, a third-year student of the Faculty of Philology, was synthesized and presented with the song "Azerbaijan" performed by other students of the university.

At the end of the presentation, a video with the names of our martyrs was presented.
