On June 25, the opening ceremony of the memorial complex created to immortalize the memories of martyred students and graduates was held in the yard of Sumgayit State University.

The event was attended by a group of professors, teachers and students of the University, as well as family members of the martyrs.

At the event, the souls of our martyrs who died for the freedom and territorial integrity of our Motherland were commemorated with a minute of silence, wreaths and flowers were laid at the monument.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the rector of the university, Professor Elkhan Huseynov, noted that martyrdom is the most honorable and highest peak. He noted that the largest monument to the martyrs was actually erected in our hearts. As the leadership, faculty and students of Sumgayit State University, we are proud that we are among the writers of the recent history of our people. Like a martyr, like a veteran! Today, in Kalbajar, Lachin, Shusha, to see our young men among the heroes, to hear their voices, kind words and good news of victory on social networks and Internet media, creates a different mood. This means that we have really brought up not only teachers, engineers, historians, chemists, economists, but also Persons and Citizens!

The rector also stressed that the Patriotic War ended with our great victory. The moral meaning of our victory was the liberation of our lands, which have been occupied for 28 years, by military battles, especially the city of Shusha, which is of political and strategic importance. Thus, for the first time in the last two centuries, Azerbaijan emerged from the war not with the loss of territory, but with the restoration of territorial integrity. This pride was given to us by the Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev and the brave Azerbaijani Army. This war demonstrated to the whole world the strength of the Azerbaijani people, its leader and our glorious army. Our people, who have been patient for almost 30 years, have finally won. The strong state, strong military strategy implemented by President Ilham Aliyev over the past 17 years is the main reason for the liberation of our lands from occupation. The people of Azerbaijan will continue to show great confidence in their leader, show restraint, strengthen the military victory as a political victory, and unite around the President of Azerbaijan as a fist.

It should also be noted that a marble monument was erected in front of the university in memory of our graduates and students who took part in the first Karabakh war. The shooting of pictures also plays a very important role in the patriotic education of student youth.

May God have mercy on all our martyrs and heal all our wounded soldiers and officers!

Then, Hasan Ahmadov, Master of History and Geography, said that today we can proudly say that the year 2020, which we said goodbye to, was memorable for the people of Azerbaijan with the most significant events and great innovations. Most importantly, 2020 was the Year of Victory for our people! Under the wise policy and direct leadership of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, the glorious Azerbaijani army expelled the Armenian invaders from our lands, and our ancient ancestral lands, which had been under enemy occupation for almost 30 years, were liberated from occupation. The 44-day Patriotic War, which began on September 27, ended with our victory. The people of Azerbaijan were reunited with their native lands. Thanks to this great victory, Azerbaijan has set a model that can serve as an example to the whole world, as the people can unite around their leader like an "iron fist." It was this ideology that became the ideological basis of the IRON FIST, expressed by our President as a symbol of the unshakable unity of our people around its Leader, and ensured our victory ! Long live Azerbaijan!

4th year student of the Faculty of Philology Aynur Aliyeva sang "Martyr"s Blood", 4th year student of the Faculty of Economics and Management Aliya Alizadeh sang "Azerbaijan Flag".

“Khudayar tesnifi” was performed by Shamistan Muradkhanli, an employee of Sumgayit State University. It was dedicated to the memory of all our martyrs who died for the freedom of our native lands in the person of Khudayar Yusifzade.

Alisuvar Mammadov, nephew of the martyr Elgun Guliyev, recited the poem "I came to see you".

Then the family members of the martyrs expressed their deep gratitude to the President Ilham Aliyev and the First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva and the university administration for their constant care. They spoke about the strength of the Azerbaijani Army, the heroism of the martyrs in battles, the unity of the army with the people. They stressed that "Martyrs will not die, the homeland will not be divided."

It is a great honor to create such a memorial complex at the university. The life of the martyrs is an example for every young person, their memory will live forever in the hearts of each of us.

The head of the club Khalida Guliyeva recited the poem "Let Azerbaijan sing".

The event was concluded by the statement of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ilham Aliyev: “Today is a historic day for our country. I am happy that we are returning to our homeland, our native Karabakh, to Shusha, the crown of our Karabakh, and we will live in these lands forever! After that, no one will be able to move us from those lands! ” The phrase "Karabakh is Azerbaijan!" was already a symbol of our victory and has become a symbol. I said that a year ago. I am proud that my statement has already become a national slogan. Today we can say with great pride that Fuzuli is ours, Jabrayil is ours, Zangilan is ours, Gubadli is ours, Aghdam is ours, Lachin is ours, Kalbajar is ours, Shusha is ours, Karabakh is ours, Karabakh is Azerbaijan!”
