Drug addiction, which is one of the most painful problems of mankind, a serious scourge of society, a source of danger to the people and the nation, is equally dangerous for everyone, regardless of religion, language, race or social status. It creates crime, violence and corruption, promotes the rapid growth of AIDS, slows socio-economic development, and destroys families and communities. The United Nations has declared June 26 as the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in order to draw public attention to drug-related problems.

On June 29, Sumgayit State University hosted a webinar on "Learn the truth about drugs" in connection with the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

The webinar was opened by the Vice-Rector for Humanitarian Affairs, Associate Professor Ramiz Huseynov, who greeted the participants, spoke about the importance of the event and gave detailed information about the measures taken by the state in the fight against drugs. He noted that the fight against the consequences of drug addiction is especially relevant today, the measures taken against drugs are always in the focus of the country's leadership. In order to successfully combat this social scourge in our country, the fourth “State Program on Combating Illicit Trafficking in Narcotic Drugs, Psychotropic Substances and Their Precursors and Drug Addiction for 2019-2024” was approved by the Decree of President Ilham Aliyev dated July 22, 2019. The program is being successfully implemented. Important work is being done in our country to implement the State Program.

The vice-rector also spoke about the negative effects of drugs on the human body and the serious consequences for health in the future, urging teenagers and young people to stay away from these harmful habits.

Tahir Khalilov, Head of the Department of Civil Defense, Medical and Physical Training, spoke at the webinar, noting that drug addiction affects our society, our state and humanity in general, and stressed the need and importance of such awareness-raising events.

Chairman of SSU Student Youth Organization Tayfun Hajili and Chairman of the Student Trade Union Committee of the University Nemat Ibayev spoke on the topic.

At the end, a video about the consequences of drug addiction was shown and discussions were held on the topic.
