On September 17, “Shehid bulaghi” built in memory of the martyr Guliyev Elgun Vasif oglu was opened in Goylar village of Shamakhi region.

The opening ceremony was attended by the staff of Sumgayit State University, where the martyr studied, family members, comrades-in-arms, representatives of the local community and the rural community.

First, flowers were laid at the fountain and the memory of the martyr was honored.

Speakers at the event spoke about the fact that the martyr Elgun Guliyev was a patriot man of the village.

The martyr"s parents thanked the head of state for the attention and care shown to his son.

Javid Mamiyev, Associate Professor of the Faculty of History and Geography, spoke about the victory in the 44-day Patriotic War under the leadership of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, President Ilham Aliyev. He said that the 44-day Second Karabakh War showed how much the Azerbaijani youth love their land and homeland. Our young people demonstrated patriotism both on the battlefield and in the information war behind the computer. Responding to the call of President Ilham Aliyev"s "Forward, Azerbaijani soldier!", our youth took up arms with great enthusiasm, liberated our lands from occupation, and waved our tricolor flag. The Azerbaijani soldier regained the pride of our people with his new history. The 44-day Second Karabakh War wrote a new page in the history of Azerbaijan - Victory Day. We are proud that among these young people there are also graduates of Sumgayit State University.

Speaking about Elgun Guliyev, a former student, Javid Mamiyev said he was a patriotic and exemplary student. Even Elgun Guliyev"s last words: "We are not only history teachers, we write history" once again showed how much he is connected to the Motherland and the land. Javid Mamiyev also noted that Sumgayit State University has always been proud of its martyrs. On the night of January 20, our brave demands, who sacrificed their lives for the Motherland, signed the independence of our native Azerbaijan with their own blood and conquered the sacred Summit of Martyrdom. Our university, which instills a sense of patriotism in young people, always remembers the memory of our martyrs and visits their families from time to time, is interested in their material and spiritual problems. It is not accidental that when the Patriotic War broke out, a group of students and employees of our university volunteered for the army when our Supreme Commander-in-Chief announced a partial mobilization. A group of them went to military service and took part in the battles against the enemy in the ranks of our victorious army. Javid Mamiyev also noted that a memorial complex was created in the yard of Sumgayit State University to immortalize the memories of students and graduates who rose to the peak of martyrdom.

It should be noted that Elgun Guliyev was born on September 17, 1992 in Goylar village of Shamakhi region. In 1998, he entered the first grade of secondary school No. 2 in Goylar village, Shamakhi region named after T. Karimov. In the following years he continued his secondary education in Ismayilli and Sheki. He also graduated from Sheki Islamic College in 2008. After graduating from school in 2009, he graduated from the Faculty of History of Sumgayit State University with a degree in History in 2014. After passing the teacher recruitment exam in 2020, he was appointed as a history teacher in Sors village of Lerik region.

According to the Order of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev dated 15.12.2020, Elgun Guliyev was posthumously awarded the medal "For the Motherland" for participating in combat operations to ensure the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and honorably performing his duties during the implementation of tasks assigned to the military unit. Elgun Guliyev was posthumously awarded the Medal for the Liberation of Shusha by the Order of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev dated 29.12.2020 for his personal courage and bravery in participating in the military operations for the liberation of the Shusha region of Azerbaijan.
