By the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, 2021 has been declared the "Year of Nizami Ganjavi", the great Azerbaijani poet and thinker. According to the approved plan of events, a series of events are being held at Sumgayit State University to study the rich heritage of Nizami Ganjavi and to promote it among students.

On December 8, a literary-artistic event entitled "Treasure of Wisdom" dedicated to the 880th anniversary of Nizami Ganjavi was held in the Great Assembly Hall of the University, organized by the Faculty of Philology.

At the beginning of the event, a video entitled "Traces from Nizami" was shown. The video featured aphorisms from Nizami Ganjavi"s works performed by the university"s faculty.

Opening the event, the rector of the university, Professor Elkhan Huseynov, noted that the current year was declared the "Year of Nizami Ganjavi", a manifestation of respect for Azerbaijanism, its history and culture, and spoke about the importance of the event. He noted that 2021 was remembered both as the anniversary of our great victory in the war for the freedom of our lands, and as the "Year of Nizami Ganjavi." “The announcement of 2021 as the "Year of Nizami Ganjavi" and Shusha as the capital of Azerbaijani culture is a harmony of light of hope that has been filtered for centuries, a victory of good over evil. The "Year of Nizami Ganjavi" coincides with the year of victory of our people after 2020. Victory in the 44-day Patriotic War is a victory that paves the way for its transformation into a paradise. Giving information about the rich creativity of the great Nizami, the rector noted that he was a world-renowned thinker, emphasizing that the anniversaries of the great Azerbaijani poet are always celebrated at the international level. He noted that respect for national and moral values was an important part of the policy pursued by the great leader Heydar Aliyev. It was during the National Leader"s rule that special attention was always paid to Azerbaijani culture, national and spiritual values, and it is a logical continuation of this policy that a series of events promoting the legacy of our thinker-poet are held across the country today. The rector also stressed that Nizami Ganjavi"s work is an example to the whole world, as much as it is connected with Azerbaijan, it serves universal values. Besides being a great poet, Nizami Ganjavi was also a genius thinker and philosopher. Nizami Ganjavi is a secular poet. The uniqueness of Nizami Ganjavi, who played an important role in the further enrichment of world literature, is that he created a school where he educated his followers. Hundreds of poems have been written about Nizami Ganjavi in Persian, Russian, Turkic and other literature. Therefore, the whole world remembers him with great respect 880 years later. His works have been loved and read for 880 years. Nizami Ganjavi is the honor and pride of the Azerbaijani people”.

Then the rector, Professor Elkhan Huseynov, awarded the winners of the best reading competitions dedicated to the 880th anniversary of Nizami Ganjavi, a painting entitled "Fine traces from Nizami", "The phenomenon of our vocabulary - Nizami Ganjavi."

At the literary-artistic event, People"s Artist of Azerbaijan Samir Jafarov performed Uzeyir Hajibeyli"s novel "Without You" written in the words of Nizami Ganjavi.

Excerpts from the works of the great poet were recited in the students" performances, artistic compositions based on the motifs of "Treasure of Secrets", "Khosrov and Shirin", "Leyli and Majnun", "Isgendername" and "7 beauties" were demonstrated and mugams and romances composed to the poet"s words were performed.
