On April 19 a seminar on "The importance of municipalities in local self-government in modern times" organized by the department of Business organization and management of the faculty of Economics and Management  was held at  Sumgayit State University.

The event was opened by Saida Mammadova, senior lecturer of the department of Business organization and management  who greeted the guests and participants  and then briefly outlined the purpose of the seminar. She noted that local self-government bodies have a special role in the formation of civil society. The purpose of the seminar is to continuously expand relations with local governments, as well as to learn ways to solve problems faced by departments and organizations in training students as young professionals.

Associate professor Galib Huseynov head of the department of Business organization and management  shared his views on the importance of the municipal institution and its development in Azerbaijan.

Imran Amirov, senior lecturer of the department of Business organization and management  made a report on "The importance of municipalities in local self-government in modern times." He noted that these kinds of issues such as development of the country, world events, democratic changes, the needs of public life direct municipalities to new goals and effective activities. Defining the responsibilities of municipalities along with the executive bodies in the important state programs implemented creates a new stimulus to increase their activity. In general, the main purpose of local self-government and the various structures that are part of it is to ensure that people are united in a particular social institution for different purposes.

Chairman of the Standing Committee on Budget of Sumgayit Municipality, Executive Secretary Akif Karimov spoke about  "Priority directions  of local government." He noted that the legal definition of the legal status of municipalities was first reflected in the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan, adopted on November 12, 1995, during the activities of national leader Heydar Aliyev. After this historical day, which entered the history of statehood as an important event, in December 1999, with the holding of the first municipal elections, this institution was  formed  and normative acts forming the legal framework of municipalities began to be adopted. Evaluating local self-government as an important area of ​​the democratization process in the country, national leader Heydar Aliyev also identified the main directions of the  state policy on municipalities, and paid special attention to its development. The political course set by national leader Heydar Aliyev on the development of local self-government has been successfully continued by President Ilham Aliyev  and local self-government has been further improved. One of the main goals now is to ensure the return of people displaced from their native lands, the permanent settlement of our citizens in the liberated territories and the integration of these territories into the economic activity of the country.

The head of the Organization Department of Sumgayit municipality Abbasov Shikhali Salman oglu  attended at the event  as a guest.

At the end of the seminar, discussions and exchange of views on the topic were held, students" questions were answered.

Head of the department of Finance and accounting, associate professor Logman Abdullayev, head of the department of World Economy and Marketing, associate professor Malahat Panahaliyeva, head of the department of Economics, associate professor Lala Mahmudova and associate professor of Business organization and management Malahat Huseynova spoke.

At the end, the dean of the faculty of Economics and Management associate professor Aynura Yahyayeva thanked the guests and organizers of the event. She stressed the importance of the event, noting that it is necessary for education and promotion.
