A scientific-practical webinar was held  in an online format  at Sumgayit State University dedicated to the International Earth Day on April 22 organized by the department of Ecology, faculty of Chemistry and Biology.

Farid Piriyev, head of Sumgayit Regional Department No. 4 of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, Ogtay Tagiyev, head of Health, Occupational Safety and Environmental Protection Department of Azerkimya Production Association, Vusal Ibrahimli, head of Regional Ecology and Natural Resources Department No. 12, Sumgayit City No. 1 heads and staff of the Child and Youth Development Center, as well as faculty undergraduates and students of the faculty of Chemistry and Biology participated.

The webinar was opened by the head of the department of Ecology, associate professor Rahila Ahmadova  who greeted the participants and spoke about the importance of the event. She noted that the protection of our planet from an ecological point of view, the protection of the environment and the direct participation of students in this work, as well as their environmental education  was one of the urgent issues of the day. This holiday was first celebrated on April 22, 1970. Nearly 20 million Americans took part in various events. Since then, the mass environmental movement has focused on the protection of natural resources and environmental control over industrial production. International Earth Day was formerly known as Tree Day. The date of this holiday dates back to the 70s of the XIX century. Every year, scientists from around the world gather  for a roundtable discussion to discuss global environmental issues. In this regard, different actions and events were held in different countries. This holiday has been celebrated at a high level in Azerbaijan since the beginning of the 21st century. Thus, this holiday is celebrated in universities, educational institutions, all institutions under the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources.

In 2003, by the order of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, Shirvan National Park covering Garadagh, Salyan and Neftchala districts of Baku, Ag-Gol National Park covering Agjabadi and Beylagan districts were established. This tradition is renewed every year in our republic. In this regard, let us do our best to protect our Earth and our country!

Speaking at the webinar, Ogtay Tagiyev head of the Health, Occupational Safety and Environmental Protection Department of Azerkimya Production Association spoke about the damage caused to the environment by industrial enterprises, the violation of the ecological balance and the serious damage to public health.

Vusal Ibrahimli head of the Regional Department of Ecology and Natural Resources No. 12  spoke about the current state of our liberated lands, including the pollution of soils with harmful substances, the degree of chemical weapons used during the war, the complete destruction of biodiversity, etc. . informed about such issues.

Active masters and students also made interesting presentations on the International Earth with a slide show.
