Like in all high, technical and secondary schools all over our country, September 15 was also celebrated with solemnity at the Sumgait State University. The SSU’s senior management, professor and teachers put flowers at the bust of Heydar Aliyev, the national leader of Azerbaijan, in the foyer of the university and paid tribute to his dear memory with deep respect. The National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was played at the event. Professor Elkhan Huseynov, the rector of the university, congratulated the youth who became students and their parents on this memorable day, and the teachers on the initiation of the new academic year. Recalling the development path the university passed through, the rector mentioned extraordinary contributions by Heydar Aliyev, the national leader of Azerbaijan, in strengthening materiel and technical base and preparing highly qualified staff for this scientific establishment. He stated that the national leader Heydar Aliyev considered the education and science as strategic areas, held high esteem for their role in the progress of the nation. Our national leader who said “Education area is the most important area now for our people’s, for our country’s future” contributed a lot to the development of education. Today Ilham Aliyev, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, also considers education one of the priorities of state policy. I can say with confidence that State Strategy for Development of Education approved by President Ilham Aliyev will contribute greatly to the training of highly qualified staff. Professor Huseynov drew attention to the important place that the SSU holds among high schools. The rector noted that SSU’s results for current academic year clearly demonstrates it. Nearly 1400 youth became SSU students. In the ceremony their student cards were presented by the University’s management to the students who gained high scores. The employee of University Training Centre, poet and dramatist Mr. Avaz Mahmud Laladag congratulated the students with his poetry and stated that modern society is related with qualitative education. Speaking at the meeting, Ms. Nigar Mammadova, the first-year student of the SSU phylology faculty, on behalf of the students and Mr. Rovshan Safarov on behalf of the parents wished success to the students in their future education. Also the dean of History and Geography faculty, professor Adil Bakhshaliyev congratulated the students in his speech, and noted that 97 years ago on September 15, Baku was liberated from Armenian-Bolshevik occupation. Today is also 15th anniversary of the History and Geography faculty. Professor gave detailed information about university and its achievements during recent years. The ceremony devoted to 2015-2016 academic year ended with the SSU’s march.
