On May 25, a scientific-practical conference called " Shusha -pearl of Karabakh " dedicated to the "Year of Shusha" was held at the faculty of History  and geography of  Sumgayit State University.

First, the  memory of our martyrs who died for  our land was commemorated with a minute of silence.

Dean of the faculty, professor Adil Bakhshaliyev  opened the conference with an introductory speech and spoke about the importance of the conference, stating that it is particularly important to dedicate such a prestigious event to the "Year of Shusha". He said that the main goal of the conference was to introduce, promote and convey the rich culture, history, and nature of Karabakh, including Shusha, to the young generation. He said that the liberation of his native Karabakh, including Shusha, the capital of Azerbaijani culture  from the enemy"s occupation made each of us feel infinite pride. We are already on the threshold of the days when the internally displaced people who were driven out of their homes with unprecedented brutality 30 years ago will return to Karabakh, Shusha, and their ancestral homes. Today, opening of bus flights to Shusha and Agdam  is also a significant event of the great return movement. Emphasizing that the victory of Shusha, which is engraved in our history as "Victory Day" has become a heroic epic of our people and will always be remembered, the dean prayed for mercy to our immortal martyrs who died for the freedom of our land.

At the conference, head of the department of Philosophy, sociology and political science  Savvara Rzaguliyeva " Shusha the cradle of culture ",  associate professor of the department Javid Mamiyev "Historical and strategic importance of the city of Shusha", the  employee of the department  Nargiz Yusifova "Every Azerbaijani"s love for Shusha is an inseparable part of his moral value", Shirkhan Salimov  head of the department of history of Eastern European peoples, "Shusha"s history-past and present day", 3rd year students of the faculty, Rugiyya Mardanova, "Paradise on Earth - Shusha", Aysel Zeynalova, "Shusha after the return and Shusha"s contributions to Azerbaijan", 2nd year student Orkhan Dadashov made a speech on the topic "Targets of Shusha year from the point of view of a sociologist" and talked about the examples of heroism shown by the brave Azerbaijani Army under the leadership of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief  during the 44-day Patriotic war, the restoration and construction  carried out in Shusha, which was declared the cultural capital of our country, and the music festivals held in Shusha. 

The speakers emphasized that the declaration of 2022 as the "Year of Shusha" will make great contributions to the development of our national culture and will create an opportunity to bring the ancient pearls of Azerbaijani architectural art of Shusha to the attention of the world community.
