The seminar was held on the topic "The contract of the century" - the celebration of the political and economic strategy of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev on September 20 at the Heydar Aliyev school of Sumgayit State University.

Rector of the university professor Elkhan Huseynov opened the event and greeted the participants, spoke about the development of the oil strategy in Azerbaijan and the invaluable services of the great leader Heydar Aliyev in this field. Emphasizing the role of national leader Heydar Aliyev in signing the "Contract of the Century", the rector spoke about the contributions of Azerbaijani oil to the world economy and energy throughout history. He noted that today 28 years passed  the agreement between the State Oil Company (SOCAR) and the world"s leading oil companies was signed "on the joint development of the Azeri, Chirag and the deep-lying part of the Guneshli  oilfield in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea and the distribution of oil production". According to the Decree of national leader Heydar Aliyev dated August 16, 2001, the date of signing the contract - September 20 is celebrated as "Oilmen"s Day" in Azerbaijan. Our oilmen have gained great respect in the society with their dedication and professionalism at all times. On the occasion of this significant day, I congratulate them and wish them great success in their  activities.

The rector also emphasized that the "Contract of the Century" prepared under the leadership of National leader Heydar Aliyev was written in the chronicle of our republic as a glorious page of the new oil strategy. This agreement is included in the list of the largest agreements concluded in the world both in terms of the amount of hydrocarbon reserves and the volume of investments. In 2002, with the participation of the Great Leader, the foundation of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline was laid. Four years later, Azerbaijani oil was delivered to the port of Ceyhan through the BTC pipeline. Currently, the importance of this pipeline is clearly recognized all over the world. Today, the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan main export oil pipeline is of exceptional importance, at the same time, from the point of view of the international energy security system in general, as well as for the countries that have successfully partnered with our country in the field of oil exports, especially the Central Asian states. Under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, the policy of economic diversification and development of the non-oil sector, including the private sector, is implemented in our country. Adhering to the political and economic course of the Great Leader, the head of state strengthens our independence and turns Azerbaijan into a powerful country with a strong economy. The glorious Victory won in the Patriotic War is a clear example of this successful policy.

Professor Shirkhan Salimov- head of the department of history of Azerbaijan and Eastern European Nations  gave a speech on the topic "Place and role of the contract of the Century in the historical development of Azerbaijan" and spoke about the benefits of Azerbaijan"s oil strategy in the  development of the country. He stated that today, as an oil and gas exporting country, Azerbaijan has become a reliable partner for the world community, and in energy security issues. The integration of Azerbaijan into the international world is accelerating every year, and our country makes important contributions to the energy security of the world.

These following participants made a speech in different topics: professor Akbar Agayev head of the department of Petrochemistry and Chemical Engineering "The Agreement of the Century is the basis of the development of the oil industry in independent Azerbaijan", head of the department of Economics, associate professor Lala Mahmudova, "The role of the contract of the Century in the socio-economic development of Azerbaijan", Aytan Bunyatova, a lecturer of the department of Foreign languages  ""The place of the Azerbaijan of the contract of the Century" in foreign policy, Fatima Muradzade, a third-year student of the faculty of Economics and Management "The contract of the New Century is a continuation of the contract of the Century". They said that Azerbaijan is one of the countries with rich natural resources in the world. However, our people had the opportunity to fully benefit from this wealth only at the end of the 20th century - after gaining independence. The "Contract of the Century" revived Azerbaijan"s oil and gas industry, ensured the country"s energy security, stimulated the development of all other areas of the economy, and led to the rise of the people"s and the republic"s well-being. Today, the energy policy implemented under the wise leadership of President Ilham Aliyev  successfully continued the oil strategy of Great Leader  brings great benefits to our country and the entire region.
