On October 26, an event was held on the occasion of the 99th anniversary of the establishment of the Republic of Turkey organized by the department of International cooperation and foreign students  of Sumgayit State University.

First, rector professor Elkhan Huseynov  received the delegation led by Ali Rza Altunel -Turkey"s education adviser in Azerbaijan  at a round table, greeted them and expressed his pleasure to see them at the university. He spoke about the independence struggle of the Turkish people, the current development and progress of the Republic of Turkey. He noted that state independence is the most valuable asset of any nation. The Turkish people declared their state independence 99 years ago. Rector congratulated the people of Turkey on the occasion of the Independence Day of the brother country and wished the people of the country development and progress. He emphasized that the peoples of Turkey and Azerbaijan are always at each other"s side and thanked  Turkey for their support in the Second Karabakh war. The rector said that the people and the state of Azerbaijan highly appreciate the brotherly support with a sense of gratitude.

Ali Reza Altunel, Turkey education consultant in Azerbaijan expressed his gratitude to the management of SSU for the warm welcome and holding such a holiday event. He expressed confidence that the relations established between Azerbaijan and Turkish higher education institutions will bring high results. He gave extensive information about the institution of which he leads.

The event continued in the Small Assembly hall.

Gafar Atayev, vice-rector for International relations of SSU made a speech, greeted the guests and participants, talked about Azerbaijan-Turkey relations, which are based on the principles of mutual respect and good neighborliness. These  are the priority directions of our country"s foreign policy. He said that relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey always show  solidarity,and this relationship continues successfully in political, economic, trade, humanitarian, military and other fields. The vice-rector also emphasized that relations between our countries are constantly developing in the field of education, as in all fields. As a result of these relations, associate professor Gafar Atayev informed about the cooperation of SSU with Turkish universities and the relations in the "Movlana Exchange Program". He emphasized that joint meetings, conferences, and master classes were organized in this area, all of which contributed to the fields of science and education between the countries. The  number of foreign students studying at the university is dominated by Turkish students.

Ali Rza Altunel -Turkey  education consultant in Azerbaijan  spoke and highly appreciated the  celebration of October 29 - Republic Day, the 99th anniversary of the establishment of the Republic of Turkey in brother Azerbaijan. He stated  about the development path of the Republic of Turkey in recent years, Turkey"s  support for the right  struggle to liberate the occupied lands of Azerbaijan from the enemy.

Then a video depicting the diplomatic relations of the Azerbaijan-Turkey Republic was shown.

Professor Shirkhan Salimov the head of the department of History of peoples of Azerbaijan and Eastern Europe of SSU spoke about the topic "Turkey-Azerbaijan relations at the end of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century" and stated that today brother Turkey adhering to its traditions and principles of statehood is moving forward.

Professor Shirkhan Salimov congratulated the people of Turkey on the occasion of the holiday and wished prosperity to the brotherly country.

The participants spoke around different topics in the event: Dr. Sadık Chetin inviting  from Gaziantep University to teach the subject "Ottoman History" at the faculty of History and geography of SSU "Happenings in the processes leading up to the proclamation of the Republic”, head of the department of History and its teaching methodology associate professor Sona Maharramova "Turkey-Azerbaijan brotherhood in the victory of Karabagh", Can Dilshah  a first-year student of the faculty of Philology "Turkey-Azerbaijan relations"  They emphasized the ancient history of friendship and brotherhood between the states of Azerbaijan and Turkey.

The dean of the faculty of Philology  associate professor Sevinj Hamzayeva made a speech and congratulated  Turkish people  on the occasion of the Republic Day. She  said that Azerbaijan-Turkey friendship and brotherhood takes  strength from the common national, moral values ​​and traditions of our peoples.

Mataullah Saidi- a third-year student of the faculty of Physics and electroenergetics, a citizen of Afghanistan, and Syed Ali Mushtaq a student of the preparatory course, a citizen of Pakistan   congratulated the Republic of Turkey on the occasion of the 99th anniversary of its Independence, wished that the  independence of Turkey  would always be strong and unshakable. They said that we are bound by reliable and strong friendship and brotherhood. They thanked the university management for organizing the event and the  creating conditions  for foreign students.

In the end, vice-rector associate professor Gafar Atayev said, "Long live Turkey-Azerbaijan unity and brotherhood!" The event concluded with the slogan.
