In accordance with the approved Event Plan on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the founding of Sumgayit State University, the awarding ceremony of the essay-writing contest "My native university" announced by the university among its students, as well as the sports spartakiade among the employees and students of the Sumgayit State Technical College under SSU was held.

The history of the development of universities and higher education shows that with the progress of higher schools, substantial progress in all areas of society is taking place. Characterized as one of the most valuable and advanced higher education institutions of the Republic of Azerbaijan, celebrating the 60th anniversary of Sumgayit city is main center of science, education, public. Sumgayit State University has a high reputation in the system of higher education institutions of our country, comprehensive development, and activities in the field of training highly qualified personnel. In this direction, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of Sumgayit State University and the Victory Day various events and competitions were held: a sports spartakiade among the employees and students of Sumgayit State Technical College under both the university and SSU, an essay-writing competition on "My native university", 60 years of activity of SSU exhibition of reflective photographs and students" handicrafts and paintings related to Victory Day, dedicated to the 60th anniversary of SSU "What? Where? When?" intellectual knowledge competitions.

On December 1, at the awarding ceremony held in the Great Assembly hall of the university  the event was opened by the vice-rector for Social affairs and public relations  associate professor Elmar Khalilov who congratulated the winners who were awarded honorary degrees by the university administration and the Trade Union Committee. Sumgayit State University is a prestigious center of science and education. It is also a strong cultural center. Sport occupies a special place in the social life of the university. The main purpose of intellectual knowledge competition "What?" Where? When?"  sports spartakiade, and essay-writing competition on "My native university" dedicated to the 60th anniversary of Sumgayit State University  is to educate students in the spirit of national patriotism, respect for our culture, art, and national traditions, to raise their artistic-aesthetic level, to provide revealing  talented students and employees in different art fields and  to support the development of their abilities and at the same time the efficient use of students" free time.

Then the winners were awarded with  cups, certificates and awards.
