On February 21, a scientific seminar dedicated to the International Mother Language Day "The key of our national and moral values" was held at the initiative and organization of the department of Azerbaijani language and its teaching methodology of the faculty of Philology at Sumgayit State University.

The event was attended by professors and teachers of the faculty of Philology of SSU, graduate students, doctoral students and dissertation students.

Head of the department of Azerbaijani language and its teaching methodology associate professor Buyukkhanim Eminli greeted the guests, professors and students and spoke about the importance of February 21 - International Mother Language Day and the struggle for the protection of literary language norms. She said that the mother tongue plays an important role in the enrichment of a person's spiritual world, in the expansion of his worldview, in getting an excellent education and communicating with his compatriots. The Azerbaijani language is a very rich and magnificent language with a unique place in the family of Turkic languages, deep roots and a great tradition. In this direction, the great leader Heydar Aliyev conducted a consistent and purposeful language policy and rendered incomparable services in the preservation of the Azerbaijani language. The comprehensive development of the mother tongue in our country, its transformation into a working language, finding its way into the system of international relations are the result of the great leader Heydar Aliyev's well-thought-out policy. Currently, the head of our state Ilham Aliyev is successfully continuing these traditions.

Then Astan Bayramov - professor of the department of Azerbaijani language and its teaching methodology and young teacher Elshad Aliyev made a speech about the intricacies of the Azerbaijani language, its rich shades of expression and potential opportunities. They said that this important day is celebrated in our republic, as in all countries of the world. It is gratifying that issues such as taking care of our language, protecting it, and promoting it are not only brought up to date in our country, but are regularly implemented. The Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev dated November 1, 2018 "About the measures related to the protection of the purity of the Azerbaijani language and further improvement of the use of the state language" is of great importance for our language.

In their speeches, other speakers talked about the special attention given to our mother tongue in fiction and cited the names of works written on the subject of the mother tongue.

At the end of the event, a literary and artistic composition prepared by the students was shown and poems about their mother tongue were sung.
