On April 26, an event called "Cultural capital of the Turkish world" for the year 2023 was held at the History and geography faculty of Sumgayit State University.

The dean of the faculty of History and geography, professor Adil Bakhshaliyev, opened the event by talking about the love of Shusha in the hearts of the Azerbaijani people, including in the Turkic world, and noted that the city of Shusha, which is considered the pearl of Karabakh, has gone through a rich historical development, the entire South Caucasus played an exceptional role in his social and political life. This city has always preserved its unique historical appearance, cultural, scientific and social thought of Azerbaijan and the Turkic world. That is why it is no coincidence that the city of Shusha was declared the "cultural capital of the Turkish world" in 2023. According to the relevant decision of TURKSOY, the declaration of the city of Shusha as the cultural capital of the Turkic world in 2023 is an important historical event. Professor Adil Bakhshaliyev stated that holding a series of events in accordance with the Event Plan of Sumgayit State University regarding the declaration of Shusha as the "Cultural capital of the Turkish World" for 2023 will contribute to promoting the heritage of our cultural capital and strengthening the love of the Motherland among students.

Head of the department of History and its teaching methodology doc.Sona Maharramova gave a speech on the topic "The role of Heydar Aliyev in the development of the city of Shusha" and stated that National Leader Heydar Aliyev paid special attention to the development of the city of Shusha during his leadership of Soviet Azerbaijan. It was thanks to the Great Leader that the historical architectural monuments of Shusha city were preserved, turned into a resort-sanatorium city of the all-Union level. The mausoleum of M.P. Vagif, the "House of Vagif Poetry", the monument of the poet Khurshidbanu Natavan were opened, and the groundless claims of Armenians were prevented. Great Leader Heydar Aliyev said about Shusha: Shusha is a corner of Azerbaijan with the most precious and great history. This is a great monument created by the people of Azerbaijan, our ancestors, not only a city, but a great historical monument.

Then,the following speakers spoke about the different topics: Yusifali Hasanov, docent of the department of History and its teaching methodology, "Historical personalities that the city of Shusha brought to the Turkish world", Leyla Aliyeva, teacher of the department, "Historical significance of the declaration of the city of Shusha as the cultural capital of the Turkish world", Anar Gurbanov, a first-year master's student of the faculty of History and geography, "Regeneration and development strategy of the city of Shusha". They said that the undeniable historical role of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev in the development of Shusha city is developing day by day with the special attention and care of his worthy political successor, the head of the country, Ilham Aliyev.

At the end of the event, the students chanted "Shusha, you are free!" an artistic composition and a video clip about Shusha were shown.
