A group of teachers and students of SSU got acquantied with the activities of Mingachevir HPP and TPP
On April 29, a group of teachers and students of the faculty of Physics and electroenergetics of Sumgayit State University, led by the head of the department of Electrical engineering and energetics, associate professor Nadir Hajibalayev, went on an excursion to Mingachevir Hydroelectric Power Station (HPP) and Azerbaijan Thermal Power Station (TSP).
First, the teacher-student team was welcomed by Ali Ibrahimli, the head of the Technical Safety department at Mingachevir HPP, and Eldeniz Masimov, the leading specialist in working with legal personnel, and at the IPP, Tahmasib Huseynov, the director of the enterprise, and Agil Mahmudov, the head of the Technical Safety Department, gave extensive information about the stations.
It was reported to the tourists that the reconstruction works at Mingachevir HPP were initiated by the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev, and in 2010-2017, major reconstruction works were carried out as a continuation of the process. It was said that the control center, which currently does not meet the standards in terms of staff safety, has been replaced with a new control center that fully meets modern requirements. It was noted that President Ilham Aliyev participated in the commissioning ceremony of Mingachevir HPP with a capacity of 424 MW after major reconstruction. It was pointed out that the Mingachevir HPP was completed in 1955, was put into operation with a full capacity of 360 megawatts after modernization. This makes it possible to generate 1.4 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, irrigate 1.2 million hectares of fertile land and develop fisheries when the annual average water flow of the regulated watershed is 12.5 billion cubic meters. Local control systems installed in hydro units and substations of the station are integrated with the central control system of the station, and the power system is directly connected to the central control system. In general, the reservoir of the station has sufficient water reserves for long-term use according to its capacity.
In 1974 at the initiative of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, the first power unit of the Azerbaijan NPP was put into operation in 1981, and the last - the 8th unit - in 1990. It was also reported that since that time, the station has kept the first position in meeting the country"s demand for electricity. In July 2018, the country"s energy system was seriously damaged as a result of an accident that occurred at the station, which was a huge infrastructure project for its time and was distinguished by its special importance in the energy system of the republic. As a result, open distribution facilities with 330 and 500 kilovolt , 8 power units, Control Dispatch Center, main and auxiliary areas of the station, buildings and facilities were commissioned in 2020 after major reconstruction.
During the tour, all the questions of the students were answered at Mingachevir HPP and HPP. The students, in turn, expressed their gratitude for the created conditions.
