A group of professors and students of SSU visited Shamakhi Astrophysics Observatory named after N. Tusi of ANAS
On May 13, a group of professors and students from the faculty of Physics and Electroenergetics of Sumgayit State University visited Shamakhi Astrophysics Observatory named after N. Tusi of ANAS.
First, scientific secretary of the observatory, doctor of philosophy in astronomy, associate professor Orkhan Khalilov and doctoral candidate in astrophysics and stellar astronomy, research worker Sabahaddin Alishov welcomed the professor-teacher and student staff of SSU, and noted that they were pleased to see them.
First, Sabahaddin Alishov gave extensive information to the guests about the history of the observatory. He stated that on the basis of the relevant orders of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev, reconstruction measures were carried out in the Shamakhi Astrophysical Observatory named after N. Tusi in 2009-2013. As a result of Mr. President's attention and concern for Azerbaijani science, the observatory's residential section was completely renovated, its main building (a new astronomy museum, a large conference hall, etc. were added), an the buildings where the telescopes were located were overhauled, a new laboratory building was built, and a number of auxiliary facilities were put into use. New communication lines meeting modern standards have been built, the two-meter telescope has been fully modernized and automated.
Also, Sabahaddin Alishov noted that about 100 scientific workers are conducting research work at the observatory. In the museum of the observatory, he gave information to the students and teachers 2 meteorites that fell on the territory of Azerbaijan are kept as exhibits, the control panel of the previous telescope, as well as 6 telescopes, including 2 solar and 4 star telescopes, and answered their questions.
Stands with photos of astrophysicists awarded the Nobel Prize in the observatory were welcomed by students with interest. The students expressed their deep gratitude to the management of the observatory for the conditions.
