On May 26, on the occasion of the 105th anniversary of the establishment of the Azerbaijan People"s Republic, a scientific-practical conference was held on the topic "Modern Azerbaijan Republic is the successor of the Azerbaijan People"s Republic".

The conference was attended by the management of the university, professors and students.

The rector of the university professor Elkhan Huseynov, opened the conference with his opening speech and spoke about the historical significance of May 28 - Independence Day, written in golden letters on the glorious page of our people"s struggle for freedom and independence. He said that 105 years have passed since the establishment of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic - the first democratic republic of the Muslim East. He noted that although the ADR operated for a short time,but it lived forever with the ideas of national independence that it created in the minds of the people. The Azerbaijan Democratic Republic emerged as a logical result of the centuries-old socio-economic, socio-political and cultural development of our country, national awakening and revival processes of our people. The work of the persons who led the Republic in declaring the independence of Azerbaijan on May 28, 1918, in establishing and operating the People"s Republic was undeniable. Despite the fact that it was in operation for only 23 months, the measures implemented during the period of the first republic in terms of establishing the foundations of our independent statehood. In his speech, the rector talked about the work in the direction of strengthening the independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan and ensuring its socio-economic development as a result of the wise and determined policy of National Leader Heydar Aliyev after the restoration of state independence on October 18, 1991. He said that in 1991, our country regained independence for the second time, but as a result of the then leadership"s inability Azerbaijan fell into a crisis situation. The internal strife experienced in those years led to the occupation of our lands by Armenians and the start of the civil war. Professor Elkhan Huseynov also emphasized that President Ilham Aliyev rightly noted that "Democratic foundation were created and strengthened precisely at the initiative of the Great Leader, in those years the political system was formed, the constitution was adopted, the period of integration into the world began, the information war waged against us ended. Economic reforms were carried out, the foundation of statehood were laid, oil contracts were signed. Rector professor Elkhan Huseynov noted that today our people celebrate Independence Day as citizens of the victorious country. Brave sons of our motherland, our brave army demonstrated their valor to the whole world in the 44-day Patriotic War. Under the leadership of our victorious Commander-in-Chief, our Glorious Army freed our ancient lands from the enemy, which had been in the hands of the enemy for nearly 30 years. The Victory road, which began on September 27, 2020, was written in golden letters in the history of our nation. The tricolor flag was raised by our Glorious Army, our Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev in our ancient liberated lands, in the city of Shusha.

Later, the head of the department of history of Azerbaijan and Eastern Europe peoples, professor Shirkhan Salimov made a report on "Emergence and activity of the Azerbaijan People"s Republic". He spoke extensively about the work by the People"s Republic in a short time - the first Parliament and Government of Azerbaijan, the organization of the state apparatus, the determination of the borders of the country, creating of the flag, anthem, the declaration of the mother tongue as the state language, and the implementation of serious measures in the field of state building. He noted that ADR paid special attention to ensuring the country"s territorial integrity and national security, creating highly combat-capable military units in a short period of time, building state bodies in accordance with national requirements and democratic principles, and developing education and culture.
