EXCURSION TO SHAHDAG NATIONAL PARK
A group of students of the faculty of Chemistry and biology, under the guidance of Aysel Aghayeva and Aida Kahramanova, lecturers of the department of Biology and its teaching methodology, visited the Shahdag National Park on December 8, the day of its foundation, to closely monitor the species of plants and animals protected there, especially the bison and red deer, which have been reintroduced and included in the Red Book of Azerbaijan. He visited the Ismayilli section of the park located in Buynuz village.
It should be recalled that since the end of 2012 intensive work has been carried out by the IDEA Public Union, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, and the Azerbaijani office of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in order to reintroduce bison into the wild nature of our country.
According to the cooperation agreement signed between IDEA Public Union and Shahdag National Park, 305 hectares of land has been allocated in Ismayilli part of Shahdag National Park in order to restore extinct bisons and reintroduce them to the nature of the country, as well as increase other types of wild animals for scientific purposes. complex was built. Since May 2019, bison have been brought to our country from Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands, and from Germany to Shirvan National Park in November 2023.
Red deer were reintroduced to the National Park for the first time in November 2022.
The project is expected to be continued until 2028 and the number of bison will be 100.
